On the morning of November 18, National Highway 1 leading from the old Dien Ban town to Go Noi commune (old Duy Xuyen district, now Da Nang city) was submerged in a vast sea of water. Many inter-commune roads were flooded with water up to a meter deep, paralyzing traffic, forcing people to use boats to get around.
Over the past few days, heavy rains from upstream have caused floodwaters in Go Noi commune to rise again. This is the fourth flood in less than a month, causing all production activities to stagnate, and people are tired of waiting for the water to recede so they can go out.
At high points such as schools and bridges over rivers, people lined up their motorbikes and cars to avoid the flood.
The central bridge leading through the old Dien Ban town is also jammed with rows of motorbikes and cars, making traffic difficult.
"Never before have we seen such continuous and prolonged flooding as this year. Go Noi is a vegetable granary, a large agricultural area supplying Da Nang City, but this year people have been unable to do anything. This Tet, it will be very difficult to grow vegetables," said a resident of Go Noi commune.
