New tensions have flared between Barca and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), with Lamine Yamal once again at the centre of controversy. The 18-year-old star was left out of the Spain squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Georgia on November 16 and Türkiye on November 19.
According to RFEF, Yamal underwent invasive radiofrequency therapy on the morning of November 10 to check for discomfort in the pubic area.
But this was arranged by Barca on their own, without informing the Spanish team doctors. Barca then only provided a medical report to the Spanish team that Yamal would be out for 7 to 10 days.
This action has reignited tensions between Barca and the RFEF. Although Barca defended the procedure, saying it was carried out under the supervision of the medical team, the RFEF was still angry because they believed they should have been informed in advance.
This is the second time in a row that Yamal has been absent from the Spanish national team. Previously in October, Yamal was called up to the Spanish team, but just a few hours later Barca announced that the star would be out for up to 3 weeks due to a recurrence of a groin injury. So he had to withdraw from the Spanish team. Now with this new controversy, the relationship between Barca and the RFEF is even more tense.
