Ho Chi Minh City invests 500 billion VND to develop a traditional medicine intensive treatment center

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has invested about VND500 billion in the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital of Traditional Medicine to renovate blocks N1 and N2, aiming to form a traditional medicine intensive treatment center.

On November 11, Ho Chi Minh City Hospital of Traditional Medicine held a ceremony to receive ISO 15189:2022 Certification - international standard on quality management system and technical capacity of medical laboratories - for the department of testing and diagnostic imaging.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Tang Chi Thuong, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, congratulated the hospital on becoming the first traditional medicine specialist in the country to achieve ISO 15189 certification.

The Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health encouraged the hospital to continue promoting international cooperation, especially in the fields of research, training and technology transfer, to continuously improve service quality and professional qualifications.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health aims to build a traditional medicine network connecting four specialized hospitals in the area, including: Ho Chi Minh City Traditional Medicine Hospital, Institute of Traditional Medicine, Ba Ria Traditional Medicine Hospital and Binh Duong Traditional Medicine Hospital, forming a unified block from specialized to grassroots level.

This network will contribute to improving the quality of treatment, sharing resources and expanding access to traditional medicine to people in the city and neighboring provinces.

One of the important orientations emphasized by the Director of the Department of Health is to develop the field of nursing - elderly care associated with traditional medicine and rehabilitation.

Mr. Tang Chi Thuong said that the nursing care sector was previously under the management of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, but has now been transferred to the health sector. Therefore, in the coming time, the city will implement a project to develop a nursing care system.

He also suggested that the Ministry of Health soon issue a circular allowing the drugs produced by the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital of Traditional Medicine to be sold or distributed to other medical facilities, instead of only being used internally as at present. This will be an important step to help hospitals promote their capacity to research and produce standard traditional medicines, contributing to the overall development of the industry.

On the hospital side, Mr. Do Tan Khoa - Director of Ho Chi Minh City Hospital of Traditional Medicine - informed that the hospital has set the goal of becoming a specialized, high-tech line of traditional medicine, developing comprehensively, sustainably and being responsible to the community in the period 2025-2030.

Notably, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has invested about 500 billion VND to renovate the N1 and N2 blocks, aiming to form a traditional medicine intensive treatment center. It is expected that these two centers will be formed in the next 2-3 years.

According to Mr. Khoa, with a systematic planning and long-term vision, the medical tourism model will become the foundation for sustainable development of the hospital, contributing to bringing Vietnamese traditional medicine to the regional level, while meeting the increasing needs of people in health care, recovery and improvement.
