The Daily Mail reported that two incidents occurred in the early morning of November 11 (Vietnam time). The first incident occurred at Piazza d'Armi (fan area), near the Inalpi Arena stadium - where the matches took place.
A 70-year-old male fan suddenly collapsed. Despite the quick response of emergency crews, the fan died at the nearby Molinette Hospital.
Just a few hours later, the second tragedy happened right in the stands, during the match between Taylor Fritz and Lorenzo Musetti.
A 78-year-old male fan collapsed in the seating area. Emergency services stabilised his vital signs before taking him to Molinette Hospital in a critical condition, where he later died.
Both cases are suspected to have been caused by cardiac arrest, according to Italian media reports.
The sudden death of two fans within a few hours has left a huge shock. Spanish newspaper AS said many spectators were "shocked", and a heavy atmosphere of sadness has enveloped the tournament gathering the world's eight top tennis players taking place in Italy.
The specific identities of the two victims have not yet been released by authorities.
In the final match of the day, American tennis player Taylor Fritz had a successful start at the ATP Finals when he defeated home opponent Lorenzo Musetti with a score of 6-3, 6-4 after 1 hour and 43 minutes of play, leaving the Italian audience disappointed.
