A solid foundation for members to develop the economy

Promoting the core role of the Association, in recent years, the economic development emulation movement among members and women in Muong La commune has spread strongly and widely. Many effective economic models have been born to help women escape poverty sustainably, rise up to become rich legitimately, contributing to changing the face of the homeland.

Officials of the Women's Union of Muong La commune share experiences in growing fruit trees with farmers.

Following the winding concrete road between the green hillsides, we visited the economic model of Ms. Luong Thi Hoai in Na Loc village. Her orchard of more than 1 hectare is planned to grow mango, longan, and lychee. Showing us around the garden, Ms. Hoai said: Previously, my family grew corn and cassava on sloping land, with low productivity and unstable income. Thanks to the Women's Union's propaganda, guidance on crop conversion and technical training, I borrowed money to improve the land and switched to growing fruit trees. Thanks to the correct application of techniques, each year the garden produces about 11 tons of fruit, and after deducting expenses, I earn more than 150 million VND, many times higher than growing corn and cassava before. With a stable economy, I have the conditions to take care of my children's education and make ends meet.

Leaving Ms. Hoai's fruit tree growing model, we visited Ms. Quàng Thị Ty's family in Cang Phieng village, a typical example of good economic performance thanks to raising large livestock. Previously, Ms. Ty's family only raised livestock on a small scale, so the efficiency was not high. She always wanted to expand the scale, but the most difficult thing was still capital. Understanding her thoughts and wishes, in 2023, the Commune Women's Union guaranteed and created conditions for her family to borrow 100 million VND from the Social Policy Bank to invest in building a standard barn.

Next to the sturdy, spacious barn with more than 20 fat cows and buffaloes, Ms. Ty was excited: With the Women's Union standing as a credit guarantee, creating conditions for my family to borrow capital, my family has had the conditions to expand production. The Union also regularly sends staff to visit, encourage, and connect with the staff of the agricultural technical center to guide the care and disease prevention techniques for livestock. Thanks to that, my family's cows and buffaloes grow quickly and healthily. Every year, after deducting expenses, my family earns a profit of more than 200 million VND.

Success stories like Ms. Hoai and Ms. Ty are no longer rare in Muong La commune. That is the result of the economic development emulation movement that has been widely, systematically and effectively implemented by the Commune Women's Union over the past years.

Talking to us, Ms. Quang Thi On, President of the Women's Union of Muong La commune, said: Determining that supporting women in economic development and sustainable poverty reduction is a key task, the Executive Committee of the Women's Union of the commune has implemented many synchronous and practical solutions. Focusing on propaganda, helping women change their thinking and working methods, arousing their self-reliance and aspiration to become rich; at the same time, supporting capital, knowledge, building pilot models and organizing tours to learn from experiences. Thanks to that, many effective economic models such as growing fruit trees on sloping land, raising livestock, doing business services... have been replicated, creating a strong spreading effect.

To help members develop production, the Association has proactively coordinated with the Social Policy Bank, entrusted and effectively managed preferential loans. Up to now, the total outstanding debt managed by the Association is over 47 billion VND, helping more than 1,163 members to borrow capital. Along with that, the Association regularly coordinates with functional agencies to organize training courses, transfer science and technology on cultivation, animal husbandry, and open vocational training classes for rural workers.

The economic development emulation movement has changed the lives of many Muong La women. Many women have become good farm owners and business owners, earning hundreds of millions of dong each year. They not only enrich their families but also create jobs for local workers, contributing to the construction of new rural areas.
