At MWC (Mobile World Congress) currently taking place in Barcelona, Spain, Xiaomi, Honor, Oppo, and other Chinese phone manufacturers have introduced their latest AI (artificial intelligence) smartphones. A common thread among these models is their focus on features developed from Google's Gemini model.
According to SCMP , at the global consumer-oriented technology exhibition, these brands all emphasized tools such as "AI-powered photo deletion" or "AI assistants" that can search schedules, make restaurant reservations, set reminders, etc.

According to Nicole Peng, Senior Vice President at Canalys, Chinese manufacturers have chosen to partner with Google because of the American tech giant's "comprehensive" capabilities. They not only possess a broad ecosystem of applications, but Google's hardware and infrastructure also ensure seamless integration of AI into smartphones.
"Many Chinese manufacturers realize they need partners to drive things overseas. This is also how Samsung is bringing AI to smartphones, instead of developing its own model to differentiate itself," Peng commented. He added that smartphone manufacturers currently don't have many options. Ultimately, in the AI Phone race, Google will be the biggest beneficiary.
On the Galaxy S25 series, Samsung replaced the default AI assistant Bixby with Google Gemini. The familiar press-and-hold power button gesture to activate Samsung's assistant will now call Gemini instead of Bixby.
In return, Google also continuously updates Gemini to make the assistant smarter and capable of performing more multitasking tasks. For example, users can find directions to a tourist destination, make reservations at restaurants along the way, and send their itinerary to friends with just one voice command.
