Actor An Vân Vũ from 'Journey to the West' has passed away.

CHINA - An Yunwu, the actor who played the Lucky Star in "Journey to the West," has passed away after a long battle with illness, at the age of 78.

According to Sina , An Yunwu passed away on the evening of May 28th in Beijing after a period of intensive treatment. The information was confirmed to the media by actor Lu Xiaoling Tong himself.

Actor Liu Xiaolingtong shared a photo of himself with An Yunwu (right) when he visited him last year.

Lu Xiaoling Tong posted a message expressing his sorrow, and also shared a photo taken with An Yunwu in March 2025.

"The passing of An Vân Vũ is a great loss to the Ma Liên Lương school of Peking opera. We deeply respect and mourn his loss," the actor shared.

An Yunwu is a national-level first-class actor of the Beijing Peking Opera Theatre. Throughout his artistic career, he has devoted himself entirely to studying the Ma Lianliang school of opera in order to promote it and find a successor generation.

His representative works include *Zi Lang Visits His Mother*, *Oolong Courtyard*, and *Hai Rui Resigns from Office *... An Yunwu has won the Global Chinese Cultural and Artistic Heritage Award and holds a high position in the theatrical world.

Outside of the stage, the actor occasionally participates in some television dramas. He is best remembered by audiences for his role as Phúc Tinh in the 1986 TV series Journey to the West . Although it was only a supporting role, An Vân Vũ, with his scholarly, benevolent appearance and acting talent, breathed life into the character, leaving a lasting impression on generations of viewers.

In his later years, An Vân Vũ lived a secluded life. He occasionally participated in a few theatrical activities, expressing his desire to see his students compete and achieve success.
