Actor An Yunwu from the TV series 'Journey to the West' has passed away.

According to Sina , actor An Yunwu, who appeared in Journey to the West , passed away on the evening of May 28th in Beijing at the age of 78. According to Chinese media, An Yunwu's funeral was held simply and privately, in accordance with his wishes.

Sharing on his personal page, Lu Xiaoling Tong expressed his sorrow at the passing of his colleague, while also recalling An Yunwu's role in Peking opera and in the Journey to the West film crew. He said that the artist's passing is a loss to the Ma Lianliang school of Peking opera.

Along with his farewell message, he reposted a photo of his visit to An Yunwu in Beijing in March 2025. The picture of the two artists standing next to each other, smiling gently, has now become a touching moment for fans.

An Yunwu was born in 1948 in Beijing, China. He is a male Peking opera artist with a long association with traditional theater and belongs to the successor generation of the Ma Lianliang school of art.

For the general public, An Yunwu is best known for his role in the CCTV production of Journey to the West. Although he only appeared in a guest role, his portrayal of the character Fu Xing (the God of Fortune) left a lasting impression thanks to his gentle and elegant appearance, characteristic of the immortal characters in the film.

The character Phúc Tinh is played by An Vân Vũ in "Journey to the West".

After the film's success, An Vân Vũ did not pursue acting but focused on his stage career. Throughout his career, he left his mark through many plays such as "Tứ Lang Visits His Mother," "Ô Long Viện," and "Battle of Trường Sa." These roles showcased his calm, skillful, and profound acting style.

In addition to his stage activities, An Yunwu is also known for teaching Peking opera for many years, training a number of students in the traditional art form. Some of his students have won awards in performing arts competitions in China.

Before his death, he remained interested in art despite battling illness. Last March, the artist even participated in theatrical performances. At that time, his health was still quite good, and his mind was clear.
