Chosen for the role of former Vice President Nguyen Thi Binh at the last minute
- Up to this point, what can you reveal about your role in "Red Rain"?
I am honored to play the role of former Vice President Nguyen Thi Binh in Red Rain.
Previously, I had played famous historical figures on stage, but this was a living witness to Vietnam's history in a period that was both heroic and painful. Nguyen Thi Binh herself is a legendary name and is still alive today, so it was a huge pressure for an actor like me.
- Did you have to read historical documents or most recently the sensational memoir of former Vice President Nguyen Thi Binh - "Family, Friends and Country" or meet her directly to prepare for the role?
I have been looking for photo documents about former Vice President Nguyen Thi Binh during her working time. My role focuses on the historical period when Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh went to negotiate at the Paris Conference in 1973, so I had to go online to look for photos about this period.
- Is this the first time Thuy Ha plays a historical figure on screen and how long does the role last?
My role is not long, just a key role in the film, while Red Rain mainly focuses on the young soldiers participating in the 81-day and night battle to protect Quang Tri citadel .
This is the first time I have played a real historical figure. The thing is, when filming this film, all the actors were chosen but at the last minute, due to some problems, we had to find new actors. That day, I had just flown back from China and received a phone call from the film crew. I just thought I was invited to a normal casting, but when I arrived, director Dang Thai Huyen shared with me about the role and the film. At that time, I found out that I was chosen to play the role of Nguyen Thi Binh after the director changed the actor at the last minute.
I think it was fate. During the process of meeting the film crew and listening to the stories surrounding the casting, I found some very spiritual stories.
Many people do not understand and think I am arrogant.
- On September 2nd, the audience will see Thuy Ha on the big screen with the movie "Red Rain", but for the past few years, it is unclear why she has not acted in a TV series since the fever of "Come Home, My Child" and "Sinh Tu"?
Being able to return to the screen in "Come Home, My Child" after a break from filming due to a family incident was happiness for me. After that, I participated in the films "Sinh Tu", "Ngay Mai Binh An", "Chung Ta Cua 8 Nam Sau" . There were also some projects that sent invitations, but because the filming was far from Hanoi while I was busy with other personal projects, I could not arrange the time.
Many people who don't understand think that I'm arrogant or picky, but that's not true. As an actor, being able to return to the screen after many years and being accepted by the audience is happiness. However, due to personal reasons, I had to decline because I couldn't arrange it.
- Having experienced a change in her personal life, the audience is curious to know how is Ms. Hanh's current life in "Come home, my child"?
Although the family incident happened a few years ago, the old echoes still remain because we have 2 children together. The older one has gone to Ho Chi Minh City to study while the second one lives with her mother and will start university this year. I have to start from zero again. For a 40-year-old woman, that is really not simple. I have gradually come to where I am today, although I am more stable, there are still many difficulties. I still have a long way to go because I have children.
U50 still single, a tycoon of his own
- At the age of nearly 50, you are still young and beautiful. After a breakup and your life has become more stable, have you ever thought about remarrying or are you satisfied with your current life with your children?
Everyone is the same, after a breakup, there is a choice that next time everything must be considered, it is not like the rosy life before. I do not put it on the scale but have to calculate it carefully because it is related to the rest of my life. The first time, there was only like and love, just get married even if you have nothing in hand, regardless of what life will be like later. And now my life also includes children. However, I am never too extreme, but believe that it is up to fate, when I meet the right person, I will consider it further, I do not impose anything.
- So have you met him yet?
Actually, there are people who want to get to know me but I haven't met anyone suitable. There are opportunities that have passed me by because there was a time when I wanted to focus on my family and myself. People say that famous people and beautiful people often meet rich men but I don't understand where rich men are (laughs) and who my rich men are. I have to take care of myself because nothing is more certain than relying on myself.
