A Japanese ice cream brand called Cellato has created the world's most expensive ice cream.

"Japanese ice cream brand Cellato has earned a glamorous Guinness World Record title thanks to a very special dessert made with rare ingredients that skyrocket in price," Guinness World Records said in a blog post.

One scoop of the world's most expensive ice cream will probably cost more than all the other ice cream you eat this summer.

The icy dessert, called byakuya - which means "white night" in Japanese - currently costs 880,000 yen ($6,380) per serving, and has officially been declared the world's most expensive ice cream by the Guinness World Records.

This amount is enough to buy hatchbacks like the Maruti Suzuki Alto in India, or enough for a Japanese family to go on a holiday.

Cellato, a Japanese ice cream brand, calls its byakuya ice cream gelato on its website, a reminder of its Italian origins.

According to information released by the Guinness World Records Organization last week, this ice cream contains white truffles, the most expensive mushroom in the world.

Sourced exclusively from Alba – widely considered the home of Italy's finest white truffles – the ice cream's ingredients alone cost at least 2 million yen (14,500 yen) per kilogram.

The ice cream is topped with edible gold leaf, two types of cheese and "sakekasu," a fruit powder separated during the sake production process.

"It took us over a year and a half to research this ice cream, with a lot of trial and error to get the flavor right," a company representative told Guinness World Records.

The company says it aims not only to create expensive desserts, but also to offer a culinary "adventure", combining European ingredients with traditional Japanese dishes.

So they invited Tadayoshi Yamada, a chef at RiVi, a famous Japanese restaurant specializing in French-Japanese fusion cuisine, to head up the project.

According to Cellato, the dessert is ready to be delivered directly to consumers.

Cellato also provides detailed instructions on how to enjoy this expensive ice cream.

Customers are instructed to pour in the specially prepared white truffles at just the right moment as the ice cream begins to soften, then mix well with an included handmade metal spoon, made from the same material used to build temples.

Customers are instructed to defrost the ice cream at room temperature, or microwave it for 10 to 20 seconds at 500w if the ice cream is too hard.

“There is no expiration date, but we recommend eating as soon as possible, around 10 days after purchase, to maintain flavor and texture,” says Cellato.

Cellato previously held a tasting session for its employees, who described the dish as "rich in flavor and texture."

Tasters reported feeling a strong aroma of white truffle filling their mouths and noses, followed by fruity flavors and Parmigiano Reggiano cheese.

They also recommend customers pair this ice cream with sake or French white wine.

Cellato also plans to diversify its luxury product line with champagne and caviar in the future.

Although Byakuya gelato currently holds the crown as the world's most expensive ice cream, a popular restaurant in New York City (USA) launched an even more expensive frozen dessert earlier this year as a limited edition for Valentine's Day.

This dessert, provided by the famous restaurant Serendipity 3, is served with the restaurant's signature Frrrozen hot chocolate, edible gold leaf, gold straws, edible diamonds and an 18k white gold ring encrusted with diamonds.

To enjoy this meal, diners will have to pay a huge price of up to 250,000 USD.
