What happens when you fill your motorbike with E10 gasoline for the first time?

VTV.vn - People are gradually getting used to E10 gasoline. Practical experience shows that vehicles run smoothly, and although fuel consumption may increase slightly, it offers clear environmental benefits.

PVOil is launching the sale of E10 bioethanol fuel at dealerships nationwide.

These days, the atmosphere at gas stations nationwide is witnessing an interesting shift. Traditional RON 95 gasoline pumps are gradually giving way to the words "E10 Biofuel." Faced with this new fuel, many motorbike users have decided to step out of their comfort zone to test it firsthand. The anecdotal stories about sluggish or loss of power are gradually being clarified through actual mileage.

Nguyen Duc Long, a male student, said: "Initially, I was a little hesitant, but my friends who had used it said the bike was still running normally."

At the PVOIL gas station in Thai Thinh, 21-year-old student Nguyen Duc Long happily shared after filling up his old motorbike's tank: "Initially, I was a little hesitant, but my friends who have used it say their bikes still run normally. I'll try it a few times to see how it goes, and if it's good, I'll switch to it permanently."

Ms. Lan: "I'm not technically savvy, but I saw that the government encouraged it, and since others were using it successfully, I decided to give it a try."

Despite not being an expert in mechanical engineering, Ms. Lan (62 years old) chose to put her trust in the government's direction: "Seeing the government encouraging it, and people using it successfully, I'll try it too. As long as it doesn't harm the car, that's fine." Especially among young urban dwellers, ecological awareness is gradually gaining prominence. Mr. Hoang Minh (27 years old) decided to switch to E10 with a very simple thought: "When traveling in the city, anything that's less polluting is good enough."

Small, individual choices are gradually creating a measurable shift in consumer habits. This shift isn't loud, but it's palpable with each choice. It's no longer a mindset of "avoidance," but rather a growing openness to accepting biofuels.

So, technically, what actually happens inside the engine when the first drops of E10 gasoline are injected into the combustion chamber? According to a representative from the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), users may notice a slight increase in fuel consumption of about 1-3% compared to pure mineral gasoline. This is due to the physical properties: ethanol has a lower calorific value (energy density) than mineral gasoline. However, in real-world driving conditions in congested city streets, this small difference is almost imperceptible to the driver. Conversely, E10 gasoline, if it meets the QCVN 01:2022/BKHCN standard, will have an octane rating equivalent to or even higher than mineral gasoline, ensuring extremely stable combustion and effective anti-knock properties. Engine sluggishness usually only occurs when people accidentally fill their tanks with adulterated gasoline or gasoline mixed with water.

The biggest factor influencing people to "try" it is the economic aspect. Leading businesses like Petrolimex and PVOIL have announced that the selling price of E10 RON 95 gasoline is cheaper than comparable conventional gasoline by 600 to nearly 2,000 VND/liter, depending on the price adjustment period. Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thuong Lang (National Economics University) commented: "When the price difference between bio-gasoline and conventional gasoline is attractive enough, consumers will proactively choose, thus forming a new consumption habit." Market reality has proven this. In Ho Chi Minh City, Petrolimex recorded a surge in E10 consumption of 40% in a short period, reaching 3,000-4,000 cubic meters per day without any complaints about quality.

Looking further ahead, the small drop of E10 gasoline is solving a huge national macroeconomic problem. Mr. Ngo Tri Long, former Director of the Institute for Market and Price Research, analyzed that burning E10 gasoline helps engines emit fewer toxic gases, directly reducing CO2 emissions by 3% to 7% throughout the product's lifecycle. If the entire domestic market successfully transitions, Vietnam could replace more than 1 million tons of fossil fuels annually. At the same time, the enormous amount of ethanol produced from corn, cassava, and sugarcane will create a circular economy , providing sustainable livelihoods for millions of farmers. From "trying it out" to "trusting it," Vietnamese motorcyclists are contributing to building a more self-reliant and greener energy future.

Gasoline and diesel prices both decreased.

From 3 PM on May 14th, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Finance announced a reduction in gasoline and diesel prices ranging from 276 to 656 VND/liter or kilogram, depending on the product.

Specifically, the price of E5 RON92 gasoline decreased by 656 VND/liter compared to the current maximum selling price, to no more than 23,134 VND/liter; the price of RON95-III gasoline will not exceed 24,078 VND/liter, a decrease of 276 VND/liter compared to the current price. Similarly, 0.05S diesel decreased by 268 VND/liter to 27,226 VND/liter; and fuel oil decreased by 587 VND/kg to no more than 20,585 VND/kg.

During this price adjustment period, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Finance did not make any contributions to or utilize the Fuel Price Stabilization Fund.
