The Independence Palace is located on Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street, District 1. Construction began on July 1, 1962 and was inaugurated on October 31, 1966. The Independence Palace was designed by Ngo Viet Thu, an architect who graduated in France.
The Independence Palace is located on an area of 4,500 m2, including 3 main floors, 2 mezzanines, a terrace, a ground floor and a basement. The usable area is 20,000 m2 with more than 100 rooms, each room has a different decoration depending on the purpose of use but still suitable for the overall architecture of the entire palace. When completed, the Independence Palace was considered a typical architectural work at that time, with a harmonious combination of East and West, tradition and modernity.
The Independence Palace was officially put into use in 1966. In 1976, the Independence Palace was recognized as a National Historical and Cultural Relic. In 1990, the Independence Palace was officially opened to visitors. In 2009, the Independence Palace was ranked as a Special National Relic.

According to Mr. Tran Huu Phuoc, Deputy Director of Thong Nhat Hall (the unit managing the Independence Palace historical site), in 2023, there were more than 1 million domestic and foreign tourists visiting.
Reunification Hall has organized new experiential spaces such as: Exhibition "From Norodom Palace to Independence Palace", deploying automatic commentary system with 10 languages: Vietnamese, English, Korean, French, Thai, Spanish, Japanese, German, Chinese, Russian.
Thong Nhat Hall also develops the Heritage Discovery program for children aged 7 to 15, to learn about history, national culture and develop teamwork, presentation and problem-solving skills...

Mr. Tran Huu Phuoc added that in the coming time, Thong Nhat Hall plans to apply technology in activities to preserve and promote the value of the Independence Palace; digitize exhibition spaces and artifacts; apply technology in displaying and interpreting information to bring the public historical stories and new experience spaces, bringing the Independence Palace closer to young people.
