COMRADE NGUYEN VAN KHANG , FORMER DEPUTY SECRETARY OF THE PROVINCIAL PARTY, FORMER CHAIRMAN OF THE PEOPLE'S COMMITTEE OF TIEN GIANG PROVINCE:
Provincial merger is a golden opportunity to exploit combined strength
I fully support and agree with the Central Government's policy of unification. The merger of Tien Giang and Dong Thap provinces is not only a strategic decision, but also a golden opportunity for localities to maximize their internal resources.
By leveraging and combining individual strengths, we will create stronger development momentum, thereby bringing the country into a new era of development with remarkable progress in the coming time.
Each locality has its own distinct advantages that need to be exploited effectively. Tien Giang stands out with its potential for marine economic development along with a strong agricultural sector, especially the garden economic model that has been developing strongly.
At the same time, the province also has very favorable conditions for industrial development, creating a diverse and sustainable economic ecosystem. Meanwhile, Dong Thap, with its prime geographical location in the heart of the Mekong Delta, possesses outstanding advantages in agricultural development.
When the two provinces officially merge, they will combine their agricultural advantages, creating superior synergy. This will not only help optimize the development of agriculture in the Mekong Delta, but also elevate the position of this region on the national agricultural map.
An important factor contributing to the success of the merger process is that the Prime Minister has officially approved the Planning Project of the two provinces from now until 2030 and orientation to 2050.
This is not only a favorable legal condition, but also an important guideline so that after completing the merger, we can immediately implement projects and development programs in accordance with the approved planning.
Currently, as a person working in science and technology, I have high expectations for the new leadership after the merger. I believe that the leadership team will have enough capacity and determination to focus on leading and directing the exploitation, development and effective implementation of the approved plan.
This is of decisive significance, because only when the planning is implemented synchronously and effectively can the two merged provinces develop to a new height, far beyond what each individual province can achieve.
DR. DO QUANG THANH , DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF TIEN GIANG PROVINCE GENERAL HOSPITAL:
Provincial mergers and administrative reforms will bring many practical benefits.
I realize that the policy of merging provinces is not only a simple rearrangement of administrative boundaries, but also a step to innovate the organization towards streamlining, effectiveness and efficiency. Organizing local government at two levels (provincial and communal levels) instead of three levels (provincial - district - communal levels) helps reduce intermediate levels, increase the speed of administration, shorten the distance from policy to practice; at the same time, saving budget and concentrating resources.
In the context of some provinces having small population and area, and a spread out and cumbersome civil service apparatus, merger is the right solution to create administrative units that are strong enough in both economy and administration.
As a medical staff and a person participating in the management work at the provincial hospital, which directly takes care of the health of the people, I am very interested in and agree with the policy of merging provinces and building a two-level local government model of our Party and State. This is a major decision, of strategic significance, reflecting a strong administrative reform mindset, in line with the requirements of national development in the new period.
As people working in the health sector, we are always deeply aware that the health sector cannot stand outside the country's major changes. The reorganization of the administrative apparatus according to the two-tier local government model will be an opportunity for the health sector to innovate, become more streamlined, dynamic and effective, contributing significantly to the sustainable development of the locality and the country.
I see that the policy of merging provinces and administrative reform will bring many practical benefits. Specifically: Increasing the ability to allocate health resources more reasonably; when localities are larger in scale, budgets and human resources are also scientifically reallocated, avoiding duplication between small and weak health facilities. Merging localities helps to reorganize and establish central hospitals with a large enough scale to invest in deep expertise and high technology, something that small provinces previously had difficulty doing due to scattered resources.
Reduce and eliminate small and weak medical facilities to focus investment on key medical facilities, redistribute to more suitable locations, serve people conveniently for medical examination and treatment; at the same time, redistribute high-quality resources to directly implement primary health care (at commune health stations) according to national standards.
I also expect that the province will have policies, allowances, and salary regimes compatible with a specific profession, especially the health sector, a sector that must "work and handle" matters related to human life.
Continue to strengthen measures and more positive and specific actions to ensure a safe working environment for medical staff against acts of violence, assault and mental threats. At the same time, in the era of digital development, sectors and levels must have measures to support the control of information on social networks, strengthen the handling of defamatory and untrue clips that affect the morale of medical staff, discredit medical examination and treatment facilities, and lose people's trust in the health sector.
MR. PHAM THANH NGON , FARMER OF MY TRUNG HAMPTON, HAU MY COMMUNE (NEW):
Support the merger of communes to create momentum for new rural development
I welcome and support the policy of merging communes in the area. We, the people, not only welcome, but also strongly support the merger of communes, because this will create conditions for units to have enough potential to develop the economy, culture, and society, contributing to building new rural areas and improving people's lives.
When the communes are merged, we will have more concentrated resources to invest in rural infrastructure, build roads, and irrigation systems to serve production. We expect that the merger will facilitate the application of science and technology to agricultural production. With a larger scale, we can easily access technical support programs, new crop varieties, and advanced farming methods.
Besides, we also hope that after the merger, the lives of cadres, civil servants, public employees as well as the people will be stabilized and improved in the long term, not just in the short term. And I believe that with the attention of the authorities at all levels, the merger process will proceed smoothly and achieve high efficiency as desired by the Party, the State and the people.
On the morning of June 12, 2025, at the 9th session, the 15th National Assembly voted to pass a Resolution on the arrangement of provincial-level administrative units in 2025. According to the Resolution of the National Assembly, the entire natural area and population of Tien Giang and Dong Thap provinces will be arranged into a new province called Dong Thap province, with the administrative center located in My Tho. After the arrangement, Dong Thap province will have a natural area of 5,938.64 km2 and a population of more than 4,370,000 people. After being arranged according to Resolution 1663/NQ-UBTVQH15 on the arrangement of commune-level administrative units of Dong Thap province in 2025, Dong Thap province has 102 commune-level administrative units, including 82 communes and 20 wards. In Conclusion 167 dated June 13, 2025, the Politburo and the Secretariat advocated the rearrangement of the apparatus and administrative units, putting them into operation; at the same time, the provincial and communal levels will operate from July 1, 2025. |
