Regretfully losing to Australia, Vietnam women's team missed the championship goal

In the semifinal match of the Southeast Asian women's football tournament held at Lach Tray Stadium on the evening of August 16, the Vietnamese women's team suffered a 1-2 defeat against the Australian U23 women's team. This result caused coach Mai Duc Chung's team to miss out on the tournament championship.

Commenting on the defeat of the Vietnamese women's team against the Australian U23 women's team, Tribunnews (Indonesia) used the word "surprise". This newspaper wrote: "The losses of Thailand and the Vietnamese women's team against Myanmar and the Australian U23 women's team were all surprises of the tournament.

The two women's teams of Vietnam and Thailand are the most successful teams in the tournament with a total of 7 championships, of which Thailand has won 4 times, and the women's team of Vietnam has won 3 championships.

However, now, the two powers of Southeast Asian football are forced to accept the fact that they can only enter the third-place match. The Vietnamese women's team, with home field advantage, suffered a 1-2 defeat against the Australian U23 women's team. Bich Thuy's goal in the 88th minute could not ignite the "Golden Dragons" comeback when they were two goals down early.

Meanwhile, Thailand also suffered a similar defeat to Myanmar. Win Theingi Tun's excellent performance ended the Thais' championship dream.

Myanmar will face Australia U23 women's football team on August 19 to find the champion of the Southeast Asian women's football tournament.

Another Indonesian newspaper, Kumparan, said that the Vietnamese women's team lost two goals too quickly to the Australian U23 women's team. That made it difficult for the "Golden Dragons" to come back when they were inferior to their opponents in terms of physique and physical strength.

Thailand also ended their streak of reaching the final of the Southeast Asian women's football tournament in five consecutive tournaments when they suffered a disappointing defeat to Myanmar.

Thairath newspaper emphasized: “Coach Futoshi Ikeda (Thailand) once said that the Vietnamese women's team was a strong opponent. However, like Thailand, coach Mai Duc Chung's team could not qualify for the semi-finals after a 1-2 defeat to the Australian U23 women's team.

This result means that the Vietnamese women's team will meet Thailand again in the third-place match, despite the fact that both teams are highly rated in this year's tournament."

Khob Sanam Football newspaper commented: “Both the Vietnamese and Thai women’s teams caused great disappointment when they failed in the semi-finals of the Southeast Asian women’s football tournament. They were forced to face each other in the third-place match. That means Thailand has a chance to avenge their defeat to the Vietnamese women’s team in the group stage.”

According to the schedule, the third-place match between the Vietnamese women's team and Thailand will take place at 4:30 p.m. on August 19 at Lach Tray Stadium. At 8 p.m. on the same day, Myanmar will face the U23 women's team of Australia in the final match.
