Convincingly defeating Thailand, the Vietnamese women's team won 3rd place in Southeast Asia

Thailand's leading sports daily Siam Sport wrote: "The Vietnamese women's football team defeated the Thai women's team 3-1 in the third-place match of the 2025 Southeast Asian Women's Football Championship on August 19. Because of this result, the Vietnamese women's team won third place, while the Thai women's football team only ranked fourth."

“The two teams gave the audience a very exciting match, but the Vietnamese women's football team always led the Thai women's football team. At the end of the first half, the home team led the Thai women's team by one goal.

The home team continued to attack in the following minutes. By the 68th minute, the gap was 3-0 for the Vietnamese women's football team," Siam Sport commented on the superiority of the Vietnamese women's team over the Thai women's team in the third-place match.

In this year’s tournament, the Vietnamese women’s football team defeated the Thai team twice. The first time, coach Mai Duc Chung’s team defeated the Thai women’s team 1-0 in the group stage. The second time, in the third-place match, the Vietnamese women’s football team defeated their opponents 3-1.

Siam Sport analyzed: “The Thai women's football team only scored one goal against the Vietnamese women's team. In the 87th minute of the third-place match, Wiranya Kaewnakasikkam's shot hit the post against the Vietnamese women's team, narrowing the gap to 1-3.”

“However, Thailand did not score any more goals after that. In the end, the Vietnamese women's team won 3-1. As a result, the "Golden Stars" (the nickname of the Vietnamese football teams) won third place in this year's tournament,” the same lines were written in Siam Sport.

Meanwhile, the ASEAN Football website, which specializes in Southeast Asian football, said: "The final ranking of the 2025 Southeast Asian Women's Football Championship, U23 Australia won the championship, second place was Myanmar, and third place was the Vietnamese women's football team."

“Vietnam women's football team beat Thailand women's team 3-1 in the third-place match,” is still the line that appears on the ASEAN Football page.

The official fanpage of the Myanmar Football Federation (MFF) said: “The Myanmar women's football team finished second in this year's Southeast Asian women's football tournament. In addition, Myanmar has additional individual titles.”

“Win Theingi Tun won the top scorer title with 7 goals. Goalkeeper Myo Mya Mya Nyein won the best goalkeeper title of the tournament,” the official fanpage of MFF added.

In addition to U23 Australia, Myanmar, Thailand and the Vietnamese women's team will meet again at the 33rd SEA Games, taking place in Thailand this December. The list of candidates for the championship in women's football at the 33rd SEA Games also includes the Philippines, the team that was eliminated in the group stage of the Southeast Asian tournament by Myanmar and U23 Australia.
