Expected to become a high-tech agricultural center in Southeast Asia

Breakthrough, create foundation for new stage

Ms. Bui Thi Khanh Hoa, in Dong Gia Nghia ward, invested in more than 15,000 m² of greenhouses to produce melons, strawberries, cucumbers, vegetables and flowers. She installed an automatic sensor system to monitor humidity, temperature, nutrition... all technical parameters are reported on the phone. The drip irrigation system delivers nutrients directly to each root, saving money and being environmentally friendly. Ms. Hoa also produces biological products to replace chemicals to prevent pests. Thanks to the application of a closed process that meets GlobalGAP standards, agricultural products meet standards and have been exported to Singapore and supplied to the markets of Hanoi , Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City. Ms. Bui Thi Khanh Hoa said, applying high technology helps me control the entire cultivation process, reduce the risks of weather and pests, and at the same time create clean, uniform agricultural products that meet export standards.

Lam Dong province's agricultural production is strongly spreading smart, ecological, and organic agricultural models.

Duc Trong currently has more than 5,300 hectares of high-tech agriculture, which is the "core" area of high-tech agriculture in Lam Dong province. Many vegetable, flower and fruit growing areas in Phu Hoi and Lien Nghia have invested in greenhouse systems, net houses, drip irrigation, automatic fertilization, initially forming smart agricultural production areas. The average production value reaches 400 - 450 million VND/ha/year, especially some models reach over 1 billion VND/ha/year. Products such as vegetables, tubers, flowers, fruits... are available at many supermarkets and wholesale markets in and outside the province, many types meet OCOP, VietGAP, GlobalGAP standards.

According to Mr. Do Trung Nghia - Vice Chairman of Duc Trong Commune People's Committee, in the coming period, the commune will continue to promote high-tech production, expand value chain linkages, attract deep processing enterprises and develop brands. In the period of 2021 - 2025, Lam Dong agriculture continues to affirm its important role as a "pillar" of the economy. The province currently has over 107,306 hectares of high-tech agricultural production, more than 149,760 hectares of safe production with strict quality control. Greenhouse systems, membrane houses, drip irrigation, nutrient sensors, and automation in harvesting care are widely applied. From key products such as vegetables, flowers, coffee to durian, dragon fruit, avocado... are all being produced according to VietGAP, GlobalGAP standards, towards organic, associated with traceability and quality control throughout the chain.

The province currently has 428 chains, attracting more than 47,000 households to participate, showing that the agricultural economy not only grows in output but also changes comprehensively in terms of organization, reducing fragmentation, improving productivity and value. The harmonious combination of high-tech agriculture and ecological agriculture is creating dual models that are both economically efficient and environmentally sustainable.

Orientation and expectations

From the results achieved, Lam Dong enters the 2026 - 2030 period with a big vision, expecting to become the center of high-tech, organic agriculture in the country and Southeast Asia. Specifically, the scale of high-tech agricultural production is expected to expand to more than 150,000 hectares, along with 8,000 hectares of organic agriculture, forming a clean, safe and transparent production ecosystem. Digital technology, artificial intelligence (AI), digital maps, IoT, pest and disease forecasting platforms and market consumption will be applied more strongly, creating a breakthrough in improving productivity, quality and reducing production costs.

In particular, the province aims to link agriculture with deep processing industry. Currently, the whole province has hundreds of facilities for preliminary processing and packaging of agricultural products and many modern processing lines are being newly invested. In the coming period, Lam Dong will promote attracting high-tech processing enterprises, aiming to increase the rate of deep processing, increase the added value of products and expand export markets. Along with that, large-scale agricultural development will be developed, adapting to climate change. Specialized areas will be arranged according to sub-climatic zones, ensuring sustainability and optimizing natural advantages. Irrigation systems, ensuring water security, and preventing and combating natural disasters will continue to be invested synchronously. By 2030, the average agricultural production value strives to reach 250 million VND/ha/year, the income value will reach more than 120 million VND/ha/year, demonstrating the determination to develop agriculture in depth, raising the competitiveness of the whole industry.

Along with that, Lam Dong focuses on building agricultural product brands, expanding international markets, developing agricultural logistics, promoting e-commerce and improving competitiveness for businesses and cooperatives.
