After losing to Carlos Alcaraz in the US Open semi-finals, legendary tennis player Novak Djokovic will officially return at the Rolex Shanghai Masters next month.

The return of the Serbian tennis player is attracting special attention as he not only continues to hunt for major titles but also wants to prove his mettle to the younger generation.

After a season with a fairly light schedule, Djokovic has made many people worry about his competition plan.

After the US Open, he admitted he was unsure how many more tournaments he would play in the rest of the year, saying: “There is still a big question mark about where I will go and what I will do.”

The 38-year-old's return to Shanghai is more than just a tournament. Despite owning 24 Grand Slams, Djokovic recently admitted that defeating younger opponents like Jannik Sinner or Carlos Alcaraz in five-set matches is extremely difficult.

So he is looking for a new path to prolong his career at the top. “I still want to participate in all the Grand Slams next year.

But I believe I will have a better chance in three-set tournaments or Masters tournaments that take place over nearly two weeks with many days off between matches. That can help me deal with them better,” Djokovic shared.

Indeed, Djokovic has lost three of his last four Grand Slams to Sinner and Alcaraz, and even withdrew from the Australian Open after a hamstring injury. A strong performance at the Rolex Shanghai Masters will therefore cement his place in the world's top four and give him a seeding advantage at the Australian Open in January.

Djokovic enters the Rolex Shanghai Masters as a 100-time Grand Slam winner. Now, the 38-year-old is not only aiming for a record 25 Grand Slam titles, but is also on track to catch Roger Federer's 103 titles. And Jimmy Connors' 109 titles.

The 2025 Rolex Shanghai Masters is a tennis tournament held on outdoor hard courts. It will be the 14th edition of the Shanghai Masters and is classified as an ATP Masters 1000 event on the 2025 ATP Tour.

The tournament will take place at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Gymnasium in Shanghai, China from October 1 to 12, 2025.
