In the early morning of November 17, in front of the enthusiastic cheers of home fans in Turin, Sinner showed his strengths of powerful serves and accurate returns from both corners of the court. The first set was very tense, the two players competed with each other until the tie-break and Sinner won 7-4.
In the second set, Sinner continued to win 7-5 to be crowned the 2025 ATP Finals champion. In an interview with ATP.com after the match, Sinner said: "This has been a great season... This year I reached four Grand Slam finals and had an impressive streak at the end of the year, which is really great.
But overall, I feel like I'm a better player than I was last year. It's all part of the process. I've always believed that if you keep working hard and trying to be a better player, the results will come."
The win over Alcaraz at the ATP Finals capped a tumultuous year for the 24-year-old, who had to overcome a three-month doping ban.
Although the World Anti-Doping Agency has confirmed that Sinner was only accidentally contaminated with the banned substance clostebol in March 2024.
Sinner has now won 31 consecutive matches on indoor hard courts. At 24, he is the youngest player to successfully defend his ATP Finals title since Roger Federer in 2004. He is also only the second player after Novak Djokovic to win back-to-back ATP Finals titles without dropping a set.
