In the early morning of June 6, Novak Djokovic stopped at the Roland Garros semi-finals after losing 4-6, 5-7, 6-7(3) to world number one Jannik Sinner.
Despite his best efforts and improvement with each set, the Serbian player was unable to make a comeback against his junior who was at the peak of his form. Meanwhile, Sinner extended his winning streak at the Grand Slam to 20.
Sinner started the match on Philippe Chatrier Court with confidence, serving consistently and defending solidly. Djokovic, 38 and competing in his 12th Roland Garros semi-final, started slowly and struggled under constant pressure from his opponent. He lost the break in the fifth game of the first set and could not recover, accepting a 4-6 defeat.
In the second set, Djokovic rallied and leveled at 5-5 after ending Sinner's 45-game winning streak. However, the Italian quickly regained the advantage and won 7-5. In the third set, despite the tie-break, Djokovic lost his strength and lost 3-7, accepting his fourth consecutive defeat to Sinner. This was the first time in 15 years that he had lost four consecutive matches to an opponent, and Sinner also took a 5-4 lead in the head-to-head.
After the match, Djokovic hinted that this was his last time attending Roland Garros, affirming that he had given his all.
Meanwhile, Sinner extended his Grand Slam winning streak to 20 matches, becoming the first Italian player to reach the men's singles final in Paris since 1976.
He will face Carlos Alcaraz, who beat Musetti in the other semi-final, in the final on June 8. This is considered a symbolic match for the generational transition of top-level tennis.
