Mrs. Tran, 75 years old, from Shenzhen, China, took a bus to go shopping. However, she unfortunately fell at the bus stop. Just then, a bus came along.
Seeing the elderly woman fall, no passersby dared to rush to her aid. The bus driver, Mr. Ma, saw this and immediately got off the bus to help her up. He even took her to the hospital for a check-up. Because he couldn't contact Ms. Tran's family, Mr. Ma paid 2,000 RMB (approximately 7 million VND) in advance for her medical expenses and waited until her son arrived.
The examination results showed that Mrs. Tran's injuries were very serious. She suffered injuries to her thoracic vertebrae and had to remain hospitalized for monitoring. Mr. Ma returned after handing everything over to her son.
Many days later, he still hadn't received back the money he had advanced for the elderly woman's hospitalization. The family hadn't even offered a word of thanks. A few days after that, he received a call from Mrs. Tran's son. The son refused to pay and even demanded that Mr. Ma cover all of the elderly woman's medical expenses.
Outraged at being asked to pay compensation for doing a good deed, Mr. Ma disagreed with the other party's demands. However, they repeatedly called and harassed him, threatening to make a big deal out of it. He had no choice but to call the police.
The police extracted surveillance video from the bus station that day, which showed that Mrs. Tran unfortunately slipped and fell, and that it had nothing to do with Mr. Ma's bus. Despite this, the elderly woman insisted that she fell due to the driver's carelessness. They even suspected the video was staged.
Mrs. Tran's son remained unyielding. He demanded that Mr. Ma provide a second surveillance video to prove his innocence, otherwise he would sue. They insisted on paying him 20,000 RMB (approximately 70.3 million VND) in compensation, demanding that the money be sent as soon as possible.
The 2,000 yuan advance, equivalent to more than half of Mr. Ma's monthly salary, is still not back. Now the other party wants another 20,000 yuan, which makes him extremely angry. His wife also has to endure threatening calls from unknown numbers, which has significantly affected her mental well-being.
To resolve the matter, Mr. Ma had to post a notice seeking witnesses from passengers who had taken the bus that day. Two days later, several witnesses contacted Mr. Ma. They all stated that Ms. Tran fell on her own and that the driver was completely innocent.
Authorities concluded that Mr. Ma was merely assisting Ms. Tran, and therefore he bore no responsibility for her hospitalization. They also warned Ms. Tran's son, stating that his actions could be considered extortion and were illegal. With no further rebuttal, the man did not demand compensation. However, he refused to apologize or return the 2,000 yuan.

Regarding the money, Mr. Ma stated that the 2,000 yuan was a voluntary donation from him. The family did not borrow the money, so they have no intention of asking for it back. He also said that between money and integrity, he values his integrity more. He generously declared that he doesn't expect Ms. Chen and her family to return the money, as long as the matter is resolved.
Shortly after learning about the incident, the bus company where Mr. Ma worked held a commendation meeting and awarded him 3,000 RMB (approximately 10.5 million VND).
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Mr. Ma said: "I have no regrets about helping others. Even if I were to face a similar situation again, I would still choose to help them. We cannot let a few unpleasant incidents affect our own kindness."
After being posted online, Mr. Ma's story received much praise. Most people are hesitant to help those in need for fear of falling into a similar situation. Therefore, his actions are considered a shining example.
