"Recently, many Chinese auto manufacturers are keen to set up supporting factories in Vietnam. They are willing to accept high infrastructure rental prices, as long as the location meets standards for clean energy sources, wastewater treatment systems...
"I think Hue needs to take advantage of its "green" advantages to welcome quality investors," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Hien - Deputy General Secretary and Head of the International Cooperation Department of EuroCham Vietnam - at the discussion session of the Green Transformation and Breakthrough in Attracting Industrial Investment Workshop in Hue city on the afternoon of September 19.
Green economy is no longer a trend, but a life-or-death requirement
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Hien, green industry is an irreversible direction. Hue is a center of tourism and heritage, so it is necessary to have a mindset of not attracting investment at all costs. The government needs to carefully select and prioritize businesses that invest heavily in environmentally friendly technology.
Taking the example of the current investment shift needs of automobile factories in China, Korea, etc., Ms. Hien said that businesses are very interested in Vietnam, especially Hai Phong.
Hue, in some respects, has advantages in terms of ports, urban areas, and industrial zones similar to Hai Phong, so if the attraction policy is reasonable, it will certainly welcome large-scale enterprises. The most important thing is that industrial infrastructure enterprises and the government accept long-term investment and are determined enough to pursue sustainable development.

According to Mr. Nguyen Tuan Quang - Deputy Director of the Department of Climate Change (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), the green transformation trend is having many advantages in the context of the Government's determination and the world's rapid change.
However, Mr. Quang said that there are still some big challenges such as common awareness in the business community, outdated production technology, green transformation requires large resources, etc.
In this context, Mr. Quang said that each enterprise needs to develop its own strategy soon. Green transformation is not something that can be done immediately, but requires a process. After having a strategy, it is necessary to calculate resources and ways to pursue it; it is necessary to take advantage of international cooperation opportunities to have more resources.
Expecting a green future for Hue
Appreciating the determination of Hue city 's leaders in their efforts to make green transition, representatives of ministries, sectors and businesses expect that Hue will soon be a model of sustainable development.
Mr. Le Van Tue - Head of the Hue Economic Zone - Industrial Park Management Board - said that the city currently has 192 projects with a total capital of more than 7 billion USD, many of which are large-scale investment projects in green transformation.
According to Mr. Tue, balancing conservation and development is always a difficult problem. Despite great efforts, there are still weaknesses in infrastructure, human resources, and resources that prevent Hue from attracting investment as expected.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thang - Vice President of the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham) - said that wherever European businesses go, they often pay attention to renewable energy and green growth requirements.

Placing orders with state management agencies and Hue city leaders, Mr. Thang said that businesses really want to be assured of a consistent, open, clear, complete, and updated policy framework.
Ms. Vuong Thi Minh Hieu - Deputy Director of the Foreign Investment Department, Ministry of Finance - said that Hue's industrial park system is very systematic and has been invested in for a long time.
"Hue needs to reposition its strategy and develop a set of criteria to attract green investment. It is no longer the era of attracting businesses at all costs, but the era of green development models. Hue also needs to research new development models in nearby urban areas," said Ms. Hieu.
According to Mr. Nguyen Tu Minh Nhat - General Director of LNG Vietnam Development Joint Stock Company and Mr. Pham Van Tuan - Project Development Director of Thang Long Import-Export Investment Joint Stock Company, businesses are in dire need of specific attractive policies such as incentives and support when participating in investment expansion and green transformation...
Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong - Chairman of Hue City People's Committee - said that Hue is known as a peaceful land, with a slow pace of life, many cultural heritages and beautiful landscapes. However, the economy is still developing quite slowly compared to many other localities.
"In the era of national development, Hue will not remain the same forever. We are confident and steadfast in our orientation of developing green industry and sustainable development.
We would like to thank the experts and businesses for their comments and especially Tuoi Tre newspaper for organizing such a meaningful workshop," said Mr. Phuong.
