Businesses place orders to 'invest in green' in Hue.

Highlighting Hue's potential in attracting green transformation, representatives from ministries, departments, and businesses stated that Hue is currently an attractive investment destination.

"Recently, many Chinese automobile manufacturers have expressed a strong desire to establish supporting factories in Vietnam. They are willing to accept high infrastructure rental costs, provided that the location meets standards for clean energy sources, wastewater treatment systems, etc."

"I think Hue needs to leverage its 'green' advantages to attract quality investors," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Hien, Deputy Secretary General and Head of International Cooperation at EuroCham Vietnam, during a discussion session at the Green Transformation and Breakthroughs in Attracting Industrial Investment Workshop in Hue City on the afternoon of September 19.

The green economy is no longer a trend, but a matter of survival.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Hien, green industry is an irreversible direction. Hue, as a center of tourism and heritage, needs a mindset that avoids attracting investment at all costs. The government needs to carefully select and prioritize businesses that invest heavily in environmentally friendly technologies.

Citing the current investment relocation needs of automobile factories in China, South Korea, etc., Ms. Hien said that businesses are very interested in Vietnam, especially Hai Phong.

In some respects, Hue has advantages in terms of ports, urban areas, and industrial zones similar to Hai Phong, so with the right investment attraction policies, it will certainly attract large-scale businesses. The most important thing is that industrial infrastructure businesses and the government are willing to invest for the long term and have the determination to pursue sustainable development.

According to Mr. Nguyen Tuan Quang, Deputy Director of the Climate Change Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), the green transition trend is gaining momentum in the context of the government's strong determination and the world's rapid transformation.

However, Mr. Quang believes that there are still some significant challenges such as a lack of general awareness within the business community, outdated production technology, and the need for substantial resources for green transformation.

In this context, Mr. Quang said that each business needs to develop its own strategy early on. Green transformation is not something that can be done immediately, but requires a process. After developing a strategy, it is necessary to calculate resources and methods for pursuing it; and to take advantage of international cooperation opportunities to obtain additional resources.

Expectations for a green future for Hue.

Highly appreciating the determination of Hue city leaders in their efforts towards green transformation, representatives from ministries, departments, and businesses expect that Hue will soon become a model for sustainable development.

Mr. Le Van Tue, Head of the Hue Economic Zone and Industrial Park Management Board, said that currently the entire city has 192 projects with a total capital of over 7 billion USD, many of which are large-scale investments in green transformation.

According to Mr. Tue, balancing conservation and development is always a difficult problem. Despite great efforts, weaknesses in infrastructure, human resources, and other resources have prevented Hue from attracting as much investment as expected.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thang, Vice President of the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham), believes that European businesses nowadays are increasingly interested in renewable energy and green growth wherever they go.

Addressing the request to state management agencies and the leaders of Hue city , Mr. Thang said that businesses are very eager to be assured of a consistent, open, clear, comprehensive, and up-to-date policy framework.

Ms. Vuong Thi Minh Hieu, Deputy Director of the Foreign Investment Department, Ministry of Finance, said that Hue's industrial park system is very well-organized and has been invested in for a long time.

"Hue needs to reposition its strategy and build a set of criteria to attract green investment. The era of attracting businesses at all costs is over; it's the era of green development models. Hue also needs to study new development models in neighboring cities," said Ms. Hieu.

Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hue City , stated that Hue is known as a peaceful land with a slow pace of life, rich cultural heritage, and stunning landscapes. However, its economy is still developing relatively slowly compared to many other localities.
