On May 15, in Hanoi , the workshop “Digital transformation and smart industry” took place within the framework of the International Exhibition on Automation and Technology (AT EXPO 2025). The event was organized by the Vietnam Automation Association (VAA) from May 14-16.
At the workshop, experts emphasized that in the context of rapid technological development, if businesses do not invest and innovate technology, they will find it difficult to compete and may even be eliminated from the global game. Accordingly, digital transformation and smart manufacturing are no longer trends, but mandatory requirements for survival and development.
Experts say that smart manufacturing is becoming the mainstream in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. This is not only a change in technology, but also a comprehensive restructuring of business models, operations and human resources.
Digital transformation helps businesses apply modern technologies such as IoT, big data, AI... to improve productivity, product quality, save costs and optimize production processes.
Associate Professor, Dr. Hoang Huu Hanh - Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation ( Ministry of Science and Technology ) said that the biggest benefit of digital transformation is the ability to monitor production in real time, optimize processes based on data and forecast operations and maintenance thanks to AI. At the same time, this is also the foundation to help businesses move towards green production, saving energy and resources.

Mr. Nguyen Doan Ket - Deputy General Director of Rang Dong Light Source and Vacuum Flask Joint Stock Company shared that after 5 years of digital transformation (2019-2024), the company has increased revenue growth from 8-10% to 20% per year. Rang Dong is aiming for a modern, smart and green production model, aiming to become a high-tech enterprise with billion-dollar revenue by 2030.
According to Mr. Ket, AI is the main driving force in Rang Dong's development strategy, helping to build a new business model and long-term competitive advantage. In the new model, humans and AI are closely combined, data becomes a valuable resource, and the organization operates more flexibly to adapt to external fluctuations.
Ms. Tran Thanh Viet - CEO of VGreen Group, a science and technology enterprise, at the Workshop also affirmed that modern technology is the key to helping her business optimize production, preserve probiotics, maintain biological activity and increase the value of agricultural products.
Thanks to the application of digital transformation, automation and strict quality management, Ms. Tran Thanh Viet's company's products have met international standards, are present in many large domestic supermarkets and exported to Japan, Korea, Germany, Singapore, etc.

"Digital transformation is not only applied in industry or logistics, but is also very important for agriculture and agricultural processing," said Ms. Viet. Technology helps optimize preservation, traceability and increase the value of Vietnamese agricultural products in the global supply chain.
Associate Professor Nguyen Quoc Chi (University of Technology, Ho Chi Minh City National University) also said that although many businesses are aware of the role of 4.0 technology, they are still confused because they do not know where to start, lack foundation and resources.
Most Vietnamese enterprises have not completed the Industry 3.0 stage, lack technology human resources, have difficulty determining the break-even point (ROI), and face difficulties in restructuring the organization. In particular, small and medium-sized enterprises are easily "overwhelmed" if they do not have a clear direction.
Mr. Chi proposed that it is necessary to build a technical framework, open source platform, and appropriate training programs to support small and medium enterprises to gradually approach digital transformation, minimize risks and increase adaptability./.
