Speaking at the 2025 Sustainable Development Conference with the theme “Driving Force for the Sustainable Era” organized by the Finance - Investment Newspaper on the morning of November 27, Mr. Larry Lee Chio Lim, Deputy General Director of Saigon Beer - Alcohol - Beverage Joint Stock Company (SABECO), said that the global context requires sustainable transformation and Vietnam is integrating into this important development momentum. At the same time, consumer expectations are changing: According to PwC's 2024 study, people are willing to pay nearly 10% more for sustainable products and nearly half of consumers are actively reducing their environmental impact. These drivers, including: Financial, legal and consumer, are converging.
“At SABECO, we see sustainability as a competitive advantage. Globally, companies that invest early in energy efficiency can reduce their operating costs by 5-14%,” said Larry Lee Chio Lim.

With a nationwide scale of 25 breweries and more than 200,000 stores across Vietnam, SABECO has used 40.54% renewable energy in production; reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 9.3%; improved water use intensity by 7.3%, diverted 64.22% of waste from treatment; 100% of primary packaging is recyclable or reusable. These figures reflect a comprehensive transformation in the way the company thinks, operates and invests.
“At SABECO, we have redesigned our operating model around five interconnected levers: Energy carbon reduction: solar, biomass and efficiency, maximizing material reuse and recovery, protecting critical resources in climate-sensitive areas, Board-level oversight and transparent reporting,” said Mr. Larry Lee Chio Lim.

Mr. Pham Thai Lai, President and CEO of Siemens ASEAN and Vietnam, said that with a history of 185 years, Siemens participates in many areas around the world , from electrification to the chemical field.
“In Vietnam, we have done very well in the past year to see how we can apply new energy sources. We have participated in many wind power projects, solar power projects. These are very important projects for us to build together a power grid that can manage and integrate many different fluctuations from different power sources,” said Mr. Pham Thai Lai.
Mr. Pham Thai Lai emphasized that, along with green transformation, technology, especially digital technology , is one of the factors that facilitate sustainable transformation. These are two pillars that help businesses grow sustainably.

From another perspective, Mr. Lee Leong Seng, Director, Residential Real Estate Development, Real Estate Division, Keppel Vietnam, said that when pursuing ESG goals, especially in developing sustainable projects, Keppel always focuses on ESG - Environment, Society and Governance in a long-term vision in all of the Company's projects.
“Sustainability is in Keppel’s DNA. However, realising our sustainability vision comes with challenges. In our Planning and Design, we look for sites and projects that allow us to develop enough green and natural areas while achieving commercial efficiency. ESG thinking starts right from the concept stage. Every design must meet basic sustainability standards, which are then upgraded gradually during the detailed design and material selection stages. Green design solutions that are in harmony with nature often require higher initial investment costs, leading to increased construction costs and possibly higher selling prices. Most buyers prefer environmentally friendly projects, but some may still be hesitant to pay extra for these projects. This is the biggest challenge and requires the cooperation of all stakeholders,” said Mr. Lee Leong Seng.
