Present at the office of Thanh Nam Football Fans Association on Truong Chinh Street (Nam Dinh City), we witnessed members of the fan brass band enthusiastically practicing their brass band performances. Mr. Le Quang Tuyen, founder and head of Thanh Nam Football Fans Association, said: “Based on the love of football, the Association was established in 2018 with nearly 100 members in Nam Dinh City and districts. With the desire to give more strength to the Nam Dinh Steel Blue team to compete at home and away, recently, the Executive Committee of Thanh Nam Football Fans Association and its members have developed a plan to establish a fan brass band. Upon learning of the Association's idea, Meritorious Artist Tran Thi Hue, head of Tien Huong Palace (Vu Ban) sponsored 150 million VND so that the team could purchase equipment for activities.” Receiving the money from the sponsor, Thanh Nam Football Fans Association officially established the Thanh Nam brass band. In addition to the available factors, the team has posted information about recruiting members on the Thanh Nam Football Fans Association Fanpage. The criteria to become a member of the brass band are football and music enthusiasts in Nam Dinh city and neighboring areas, regardless of gender, age, etc. After registering to participate, the Thanh Nam Football Fans Association Executive Committee and the Thanh Nam brass band will select official members of the brass band. Members of the Thanh Nam brass band, when registered and accepted, will officially become members of the Thanh Nam Football Fans Association; enjoy the benefits of the Association as well as the brass band from generous donors...
Established and operating, Thanh Nam brass band has 40 members. Because most of the team members do not have knowledge about brass band music, the Executive Committee of Thanh Nam Football Fans Association invited a teacher to teach 2-3 sessions/week. After a short time, with the guidance of the teacher and some experienced brass band members in the team, the members basically understood music theory and performed simple songs. To ensure the progress of practice, due to the fact that many members live far away, the team matches music online. Then, before each match, the team will continue to gather at the headquarters of Thanh Nam Football Fans Association for a rehearsal. Thanks to their practice efforts, the team members have performed many brass band pieces proficiently. Mr. Trinh Van Phi, Conductor of the Thanh Nam Brass Band and the Nam Hung Parish Brass Band Association (Nam Truc) shared: “The characteristics of brass players require good breathing, meeting the standards of lips, teeth, ears, hands... If the lips are open, the teeth are uneven, the ears are not sensitive, the hands are not flexible, then it is impossible to play this musical instrument. In addition, the members must have good coordination, creating a harmony, sometimes low, sometimes high depending on the type of musical instrument, creating harmony for the music. Therefore, we can see that the members of the Thanh Nam brass band have tried their best to confidently perform all the brass pieces”. The characteristic in the performance style of the Thanh Nam brass band is performing marching songs such as: "Words of the homeland", "Like having Uncle in the great victory day", "Uncle is marching with us", "Going on the road"... Accordingly, the team will perform songs that are suitable for the development and tempo of the match. If the home team is attacking fiercely, the brass band will play "Going on the road"; When the ball goes into the opponent's net, the team performs the song "Like having Uncle Ho on the day of great victory"; if the home team concedes a goal, the team will choose to play the song "Get up and go"...
In the National Super Cup match between the Nam Dinh Green Steel Club and the Thanh Hoa Dong A Club that took place at the end of August, the outstanding trumpet performance of the Thanh Nam trumpet team and the enthusiastic cheers of the audience added spiritual strength to the home team's players to compete brilliantly. As a result, the Nam Dinh Green Steel Club excellently defeated the Thanh Hoa Dong A Club with a score of 3-0 and became the National Super Cup champion. For the members of the Thanh Nam trumpet team, each time the trumpet music is played on the stands is a source of pride in the cultural traditions of their homeland. Mr. Nguyen Huy Tuan, Captain of the Thanh Nam trumpet team, shared: "Despite many difficulties in the process of operation, the trumpet team still ensures to maintain 100% of its members when the football team is at Thien Truong Stadium. For away matches with long distances, the trumpet team always has 15-20 members regularly participating in the performance, cheering on the players' spirit." Recently, in addition to cheering at the matches of the Nam Dinh Green Steel Club, the Thanh Nam brass band has also participated in free performances at many grassroots football tournaments in the province. For the members of the brass band, this is a way to express their love for their favorite sport , and at the same time, an opportunity to continue to hone their brass band performance skills more professionally.
The activities of the Thanh Nam brass band have been bringing positive factors. Along with creating a vibrant atmosphere, the members of the brass band and the Thanh Nam Football Fan Club have contributed to building the image of civilized and cultured fans with domestic and international friends. The goal of the Thanh Nam brass band in the coming time is to be more professional, thereby attracting more members to participate in activities, creating a "strong" force to cheer for the beloved Nam Dinh football team.
