In the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year), Mr. Nguyen Van Dinh's facility in Tan Tuc commune, Binh Chanh district, is still busy producing and delivering gold-plated coconuts to meet the demand for Tet decorations and fruit displays for people not only in Ho Chi Minh City but also throughout the country, including overseas Vietnamese communities.

One of the designs of gold-plated coconuts for Tet (Vietnamese New Year).

Originally a solar energy engineer, Mr. Dinh found his passion in making decorative items, and for over five years now, he has completely switched to making gold-plated coconuts. Throughout the year, he brainstorms ideas, works with his workers to cast molds, and prepares the necessary materials and accessories. From the tenth lunar month onwards, Mr. Dinh mobilizes his family and workers to prepare for the Tet (Lunar New Year) season. During peak periods, his workshop produces around 500 to 600 gold-plated coconuts daily to meet the demand for Tet decorations.

Mr. Dinh carefully selects coconuts from orchards in the Mekong Delta, and they are pre-treated to ensure durability and a smooth, glossy surface for gold leafing. The gold used is industrial gold. This type of gold is inexpensive and highly versatile, making it commonly used for gilding and decoration.

These gold-plated coconuts are all carefully selected products.

To create high-quality, attractive gold-leafed coconuts, the coconut selection process is crucial. The coconuts must be round and glossy, heavy with water, mature enough without a broken stem or leaking sap, firm, and able to be displayed for a long time during Tet (Lunar New Year).

From ordinary coconuts, through the skillful hands of artisans, they are transformed with various gold leaf designs. Each coconut shines brightly, sparkling, its surface shaped like peacocks, phoenixes, or auspicious characters, adorned with peacock feathers, pearls, or eye-catching leaves.

Gold-plated coconut products crafted by skilled artisans.

Currently, the price per pair of coconut trees delivered to customers ranges from 400,000 to 600,000 VND, depending on the design.

The gold-leafed coconuts at Mr. Dinh's workshop are quite elaborate, with diverse designs and meaningful New Year's greetings. They are also highly durable, so in the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year), orders pour in from all over the provinces, and even with workers working overtime, they still can't keep up with the demand.

The report will be broadcast in the Arts and Culture Magazine program, and the "Arts of Life" segment will be rebroadcast at 9:00 AM on Friday, the 3rd day of Tet (HTV9 channel) and 5:00 PM on Sunday, the 5th day of Tet (HTVC Thuan Viet channel).

Please tune in to HTV News at 8 PM and the 24-Hour World Program at 8:30 PM every day on HTV9.
