The 2025 Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) Esports World Cup (EWC) has concluded with a surprising but well-deserved victory for the Mongolian team The MongolZ.
In the grand final held early this morning, the representative from Mongolia displayed an impressive performance, defeating Aurora with a dominant 3-0 score to claim their first-ever victory at a major tournament.
This is the biggest title in The MongolZ's history, marking a significant milestone in the team's journey. Previously, despite being highly regarded and often creating surprises, the team had yet to win a championship in prestigious tournaments.
The MongolZ's championship was the result of a convincing journey. They started with a 2-0 victory over GamerLegion in the group stage, before going on to defeat 3DMAX 2-1 in the quarterfinals.

The highlight of the tournament was the semi-final match where The MongolZ faced Vitality, one of the "giants" in the current professional CS 2 scene.
This team had previously inflicted a defeat on The MongolZ at the BLAST.tv Austin Major earlier this year. In a tense rematch, The MongolZ showed their mettle to win 2-1, opening up a great opportunity to make history.
In the final match, The MongolZ gave Aurora no chance. The team "annihilated" their opponent thanks to the exceptional plays of player Usukhbayar "910" Banzragch, ending any hope of Aurora turning the tide.
With a 3-0 victory, The MongolZ took home $500,000 in prize money. Young star Techno was honored as the MVP (Most Valuable Player) of the tournament, and also received an additional $10,000 in individual prize money.
This is an unprecedented success in the team's history because The MongolZ's roster consists entirely of Mongolian players, trained and developed within the country's own esports foundation. Despite facing many difficulties in major tournaments, the key members of The MongolZ have demonstrated skill and prowess approaching that of global CS legends.
The CS2 EWC 2025 tournament had a total prize pool of $1.25 million . Aurora received $230,000 for second place. Team Falcons finished third with $130,000 after defeating Vitality. Vitality accepted fourth place with $70,000 .

According to statistics from Esports Charts, the final match attracted nearly 740,000 concurrent online viewers. Broadcasting channels in Mongolia alone had approximately 180,000 viewers. These numbers solidify The MongolZ's position as a new force on the global esports map.
Earlier this year, in an unprecedented move, The MongolZ received backing from the Mongolian government. Following their resounding successes on the international stage, the Mongolian Minister of Culture, Sports , Tourism and Youth, Nomin Chinbat, personally invited the athletes to become national athletes.
In this capacity, The MongolZ has received significant support from the government . This has allowed its members to focus on training and participate in international events more easily.
