More connected partners

The agreement was signed by the two sides during the visit to India of US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin. The most notable content of which is that the two sides will cooperate in researching and developing new military and defense technologies as well as in manufacturing modern weapons and equipment systems.

India is currently the world's largest arms importer. Therefore, cooperation between the US and India on new technology and weapons manufacturing is beneficial for both sides in the short and long term. The concrete results of implementing this agreement will help India reduce its dependence on external partners for importing weapons and military equipment, and at the same time help the US gain a foothold in the Indian military and defense market, competing with Russia in this aspect in India.

This new step in the military and defense cooperation between India and the US creates a favorable political atmosphere for the upcoming visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the US on June 22. Mr. Modi’s trip is also a manifestation of the new quality in the bilateral relationship.

These two countries are bound together by immediate practical interests and long-term strategic interests. Both are members of the Quad in the Indo-Pacific region, along with Japan and Australia. Not only within the Quad framework but also in the goal of countering China, the US and India can form a very special pair.
