One day in early July 2025, we had the opportunity to visit Long Trang village, Khanh Khe commune. The road leading to the village is winding, many sections are dirt roads that are difficult to travel. In contrast to the hardship is the majestic natural scenery, on both sides of the road are vast green forests, spacious houses built close together.
Mr. Vi Van Tin, Party Cell Secretary, Head of Long Trang Village, said: The village has 113 households with 572 people, the villagers mainly produce agriculture and forestry. Previously, the poverty rate of the village was high, people's lives faced many difficulties. Faced with that reality, the Party Cell, the Village Front Committee and mass organizations propagated and mobilized people to change the structure of crops and livestock. Accordingly, promoting the potential and advantages of developing the forest hill economy , the village has focused on propagating people to develop forestry, mainly planting pine, acacia, eucalyptus, and anise, thanks to which the people's economy is increasingly stable thanks to the development of the forest hill.
In order for people to grasp the techniques of planting and caring for forests, every year, the village encourages people to participate in 1-2 training courses on transferring science and technology, and vocational training organized by the commune in coordination with specialized agencies. Along with that, the village also creates conditions for people to access preferential loans to develop the economy, escape poverty, up to now, in the village, there are 40 households using capital from the Van Quan Social Policy Bank Transaction Office to develop the economy (mainly planting forests) with an amount of over 2 billion VND.
Mr. Hoang Van San is one of the typical households that have escaped poverty thanks to access to preferential loans. Mr. San shared: My family's economy was very difficult in the past. With the propaganda and guidance of the village chief, in 2017, I boldly borrowed 50 million VND from the Social Policy Bank to plant 5 hectares of eucalyptus. In the process of economic development, I participated in training courses, guided on forest planting and care techniques, thanks to which my family's eucalyptus forest area developed well. In 2022, my family had an income of over 100 million VND from eucalyptus exploitation, thanks to which my family escaped poverty. In 2023, after paying off the bank loan, I continued to borrow 100 million VND to invest in eucalyptus planting. Currently, my family has planted about 6 hectares, the trees are growing and developing well.
Not only Mr. San's family, thanks to the forest, the lives of the villagers are increasingly better. Currently, 100% of households in the village have forests, small households have 1 - 2 hectares, large households have 6 - 7 hectares. The whole village currently has over 200 hectares of forest.
In addition to developing the hill and forest economy, in recent years, villagers have actively converted the structure of suitable crops and livestock. Specifically: ginger (annual area of about 6 hectares); chili (annual area of about 5 hectares); fruit trees 4 hectares; poultry farming (over 3,500 birds) ... thereby contributing to increasing income for households. From the forest planting model and other economic models, currently, the material and spiritual life of villagers has been significantly improved, the poverty rate has decreased sharply over the years. By the end of 2024, the poverty rate of the village will be 5.3%, down 19.5% compared to 2021; average income per capita will reach 36 million VND/person/year, up 20 million VND compared to 2021.
In addition to efforts to develop the economy, Long Trang villagers have also made many contributions to the new rural construction movement. Accordingly, from 2021 to present, villagers have contributed 92 million VND in cash, 680 working days, and donated over 5,000 m2 of land to join hands to implement the criteria.
Mr. To Quang Trung, Vice Chairman of Khanh Khe Commune People's Committee, assessed: In recent years, Long Trang village has been a bright spot of the commune in effectively implementing the emulation movement for economic development. Along with that, people have made efforts and determined to develop the economy, gradually rising out of poverty, contributing to the overall poverty reduction work of the commune. With that result, in April 2025, Long Trang village was honored to receive a certificate of merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee for its outstanding achievements in the emulation movement "For the poor, leaving no one behind" for the period 2021 - 2025.
In addition to the attention and guidance of the Party Committee and the communal government, and the efforts of the people, poverty reduction work in Long Trang village has achieved positive results. Thereby, it has aroused the spirit and will to rise up and escape poverty sustainably of the people in the village of Region 3, contributing to the implementation of the poverty reduction goal and new rural construction of the commune.
