Martyr Phan Thanh, born in 1942, was a native of Binh Dan commune (now Kim Thanh commune, Hai Duong province, Hai Phong city). In April 1962, Comrade Phan Thanh enthusiastically enlisted in the army and participated in the resistance war against the US to save the country. He was assigned to Battalion 1, Regiment 2, 3rd Golden Star Division, Military Region 5, with the rank of Warrant Officer and Deputy Political Commissar of the Company. He fought bravely and sacrificed his life on May 20, 1967, in Pho Thuan commune, Duc Pho district, Quang Ngai province. The remains of Martyr Phan Thanh were collected and interred at the commune's Martyrs' Cemetery, where the Party Committee, government, and people of Pho Thuan commune have maintained and honored his grave with incense and prayers.
Martyr Phan Thành is one of two martyrs of Heroic Vietnamese Mother Phạm Thị Tý.
Because the information on the martyr's tombstone does not match the records (Phan Thanh/Phan Van Thanh), the martyr's family is facing many difficulties in locating and bringing the remains back to their hometown for worship, incense burning, and grave care.

With the involvement of the Vietnam Association for Supporting Families of Martyrs, specifically the Hai Duong branch, in searching for information, matching, verifying, and notifying the local authorities and families about the martyr's grave, the relatives of martyr Phan Thanh received a Decision on the identification of the remains of the martyr with incomplete information, and a notification of the grave issued by the Department of Internal Affairs of Quang Ngai province in June 2025, accurately identifying the location of the martyr's grave. The joy of finding the martyr's remains was further amplified when the family received support in transporting the remains by train free of charge, to be buried at the martyrs' cemetery in Kim Thanh, Hai Duong ( Hai Phong ).
From July 14th to 16th, relatives of fallen soldiers visited the Pho Thuan Martyrs' Cemetery in Duc Pho, Quang Ngai province. Members of the Vietnam Association for Supporting Families of Fallen Soldiers, the Central Region Office, and the Quang Ngai Provincial Department of Internal Affairs assisted in the procedures for excavating and transporting the remains of fallen soldiers back to the North by train.

At Hanoi Railway Station on July 17th, a solemn and heartwarming ceremony was held to receive the remains of fallen soldiers. Lieutenant General Hoang Khanh Hung, Chairman of the Vietnam Association for Supporting Families of Fallen Soldiers, personally received the remains of fallen soldiers from the train and transferred them to the transport vehicle at Hanoi Railway Station. He stated: "In our country, in 34 provinces and cities, almost all communes and wards have cemeteries for fallen soldiers. Currently, over 200,000 remains of fallen soldiers have yet to be found and collected; and over 300,000 fallen soldiers whose remains have been collected and brought to cemeteries in various localities have yet to have their identities verified." Therefore, the various levels, branches, and members of the Vietnam Association for Supporting Families of Martyrs have been working together day by day, acting as an "extended arm" for state management agencies, as well as directly supporting the relatives of martyrs' families in searching for remains and transporting them back to their hometowns so that families can conveniently offer incense and care for the graves. Through this, they contribute to the effective implementation of the work of showing gratitude and repaying kindness.

Following the ceremony to receive the remains of the fallen soldier at Hanoi Railway Station, the remains of Phan Thanh were brought back to his hometown in Kim Thanh, Hai Duong (now part of Hai Phong city). Tomorrow morning (July 18th), the Party Committee, government, departments, mass organizations, the Hai Duong Branch of the Association for Supporting Families of Fallen Soldiers, and relatives of the fallen soldier will hold a memorial service and burial ceremony for Phan Thanh at the cemetery in his hometown.
