Earthquake in Phu Tho caused slight shaking.
The Institute of Earth Sciences recorded the earthquake occurring at 5:46 p.m. on August 26, with a focal depth of about 16 km. The epicenter was located in Cao Duong commune, Phu Tho province (Cao Duong commune, Luong Son district, former Hoa Binh province), about 40 km from the center of Hanoi.
Living about 10 km from the epicenter, Ms. Nguyen Thi Van, a resident of Phuc Lai commune, Hanoi city, said she was sitting on the first floor but still felt the ground shaking for about 5 seconds. Furniture and the metal roof shook, creating noise.
According to some experts, the earthquake occurred on the Red River Fault, which stretches more than 1,000 km from Yunnan (China) to Vinh Phuc province. Because the fault is in a dormant period, only medium or small earthquakes occur. In March 2024, the old My Duc district experienced a magnitude 4 earthquake.
