The new Phong Chau Bridge started construction on December 21, 2024, replacing the old bridge that collapsed in September 2024 due to the impact of Typhoon Yagi .

The project has a total length of 653 m, a width of 20.5 m, a scale of 4 lanes for motor vehicles, and a prestressed reinforced concrete beam structure.
Phong Chau Bridge has a total investment of more than 635 billion VND from the central budget reserve, with Thang Long Project Management Board as the investor and Truong Son Construction Corporation - Army Corps 12 as the contractor.
The project is expected to be put into operation in early October 2025, nearly 3 months ahead of schedule.
The new Phong Chau Bridge is of particular importance in restoring National Highway 32C, ensuring smooth traffic, meeting the needs of travel, transporting goods, and rescue during the rainy and stormy season.
The project will also remove infrastructure bottlenecks, create momentum for socio -economic development, attract investment and tourism for Phu Tho province as well as neighboring localities.
When the new Phong Chau bridge comes into operation, the Phong Chau pontoon bridge and the military ferry currently operated by Brigade 249, Engineering Corps ( Ministry of National Defense ) will stop operating.
