On the morning of March 8th, the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Union, in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, organized the program "Proud Women of Ho Chi Minh City" at Nguyen Hue pedestrian street, to commemorate the 116th anniversary of International Women's Day (March 8th) and the 1,986th anniversary of the Hai Ba Trung Uprising.
The program was attended by former Vice President Truong My Hoa, former Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, Vice Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Tran Thi Dieu Thuy, along with a large number of women's association members and city residents. At the program, Ms. Vo Ngoc Thanh Truc, President of the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Union, reviewed the glorious traditions of Vietnamese women throughout history.
According to Ms. Truc, throughout the wars of resistance against foreign invaders as well as in the process of national construction and development, Vietnamese women have always demonstrated an indomitable spirit, unwavering loyalty, kindness, diligence, and creativity. These qualities of "heroism, indomitability, loyalty, and diligence" have become a great source of spiritual strength, helping Vietnamese women continue to affirm their role and position in the new era. In recent years, the women's movement in Ho Chi Minh City has continued to make many positive strides. Women's associations at all levels have continuously innovated their methods of operation, promoting care for female members, supporting women in starting businesses, developing family economies , and building happy families.
In addition, many practical and humane activities have been implemented to spread positive values in the community. Women are increasingly asserting their important role in social life and making positive contributions to the overall development of the city.
“Women are an important force in social life as well as in the process of participating in the formulation of national policies. Therefore, every female official and member needs to uphold the spirit of civic responsibility, actively participate in social activities, including participating in elections with the spirit of understanding correctly, choosing correctly, and voting correctly, contributing to the selection of outstanding representatives who represent the will and interests of the people,” Ms. Truc affirmed.
The mass performance was held simultaneously on Nguyen Hue pedestrian street and 35 other locations throughout the city, with a total of 58,450 participants. On Nguyen Hue pedestrian street alone, the main venue of the event, approximately 3,000 people participated in the performance. The event not only created a vibrant atmosphere for International Women's Day but also contributed to honoring the graceful beauty of Vietnamese women in traditional ao dai dresses.
