Continuously growing stronger
From around 100 people in 1975, the Hue Vietnamese Writers Association now has over 700 members, active in 8 specialized associations under the Hue City Union of Arts and Culture Associations. Hue's Vietnamese Writers Association both preserves traditional values and embraces modern trends from around the world . Freedom in artistic and cultural creation is increasingly expanded, allowing the association to experiment with diverse themes and innovative forms of expression.
Literary critic Pham Phu Phong asserted: "Never before in the history of Hue's literature has there been such a large number of writers as in the last half-century, even during the time when Hue was the golden center of the country, with achievements in Chinese and Nom script literature and witnessing the vibrant transition in the national language literature. The atmosphere of renewal has opened up a vast horizon for artistic creation."
Discussing the achievements of Hue poetry from the perspective of its potential and creative forces, critic Ho The Ha remarked: “After 1975, the poets reunited in a great national celebration. Hue, once known as the land of poetry, music, and art, witnessed this joyful reunion. It was the vibrant reality of life and people that shaped the poetic quality of a literary era that unfolded in peacetime. New values of poetry were distilled from this land rich in potential, transforming it into a unique force in that moment.”
In the field of music , with thousands of musical works created, Hue's musicians have contributed to reflecting the gradual development in all aspects of social life. Meanwhile, projects to preserve and promote the value of Hue's court dance have been implemented synchronously and yielded practical results. This has given Hue's court art in general, and Hue's court dance in particular, new vitality. Hue's contemporary dance is also developing rapidly and is highly appreciated by experts.
Photography has played a significant role in preserving and promoting traditional beauty, from ancient architecture to local cultural festivals, contributing to the preservation of important cultural and historical values of the ancient capital. Like the two major cultural and artistic centers of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Hue's fine arts have undergone positive changes stemming from internal dynamics and a shift in perspective, opening itself to a globalized, flat world and integrating into emerging artistic trends in the region and globally.
Folk arts and culture are quite vibrant and effective activities. Discussing the promotion of Hue's folk culture in cultural development, Dr. Tran Van Dung, Vice President of the Hue Folk Arts Association, said: “In recent years, folk cultural heritage has been recognized, protected, and effectively promoted, making an important contribution to historical education and fostering fine cultural traditions. The Association also builds and promotes the values of Hue's folk culture to the world through international exchange and cooperation activities.”
To achieve even more new accomplishments.
Besides appreciating the achievements, it should also be frankly acknowledged that, compared to the period of resistance and national reconstruction, cultural and artistic activities in the period of national renewal are somewhat stagnant, lacking works with high artistic generalization, capable of rallying, moving, encouraging, and inspiring the entire nation to work together in unity. This is also a major concern for all Vietnamese and Hue artists.
To achieve new accomplishments, more innovation is needed in the pursuit of innovation. In particular, to truly reap the rewards and contribute to the transformation of the modern Vietnamese art paradigm, Hue's artists cannot stop at past explorations but must push their explorations to be more diverse and robust. This exploration needs to be more intellectual, not just technical experimentation.
The country is entering a new phase of development - an era of national progress - with determination and belief in a strong and prosperous Vietnam, and Hue City is no exception to this new spirit and aspiration. More than ever, Hue City needs to strive for creativity, ensuring that literature and art accompany the development aspirations of Hue and the country.
