- Since 2024, natural disasters, especially the complex rainfall and flooding situation, have caused heavy losses of life and property throughout the country, including Lang Son. Faced with the devastating power of "Mother Nature," the entire political system and people in the province have united and worked together to overcome the difficulties step by step.
The complex natural disaster situation since 2024 has caused heavy losses of life and property for both citizens and the State in the province.
Heavy damage
Speaking of natural disasters in recent years, many people surely cannot forget Typhoon No. 3 (Yagi) that occurred in September 2024, with the strongest winds near the center reaching level 16, gusting to level 17. The typhoon and its aftermath affected a wide area from Northern Vietnam to Thanh Hoa, causing heavy rain in the Northern region, especially in the northern mountainous areas. Within the province, the typhoon and its aftermath caused damage to people and many infrastructure projects, as well as agricultural production.

By 2025, people in the province will continue to face unprecedented, historic storms and floods, causing enormous damage to both lives and property.
Along with rain and storms, other forms of natural disasters in the province have caused significant damage since 2024. Ms. Dinh Thi Thu, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, stated: Given the complex nature of natural disasters, all levels and sectors have implemented many comprehensive and decisive solutions to respond. However, the severity of these disasters continues to cause considerable damage.
According to data from relevant authorities, in 2024, natural disasters caused 5 deaths, 13 injuries, and damage to houses in 10,340 households; over 3,144 hectares of rice, 2,323 hectares of vegetables, 266 hectares of perennial crops, 1,433 hectares of annual crops, 678 hectares of fruit trees, and 27,180 hectares of forest were damaged… The total damage exceeded 1,379 billion VND.
In 2025, natural disasters caused 6 deaths and 4 injuries; damaged over 10,500 houses; flooded over 12,600 hectares of rice fields and 2,800 hectares of other crops; destroyed 383 hectares of fruit trees; and killed over 8,300 livestock and 137,000 poultry. Infrastructure was affected, with 59 schools impacted; 1,854 sections of roads damaged by landslides and flooding; and over 100 irrigation works and facilities damaged. Total economic losses were estimated at over 2,230 billion VND. Many areas suffered severe damage, particularly in some communes in the Huu Lung and Trang Dinh regions.
Working together to respond
In response to the complex developments of natural disasters, all levels and sectors in the province have focused on implementing preventive and mitigation measures. In particular, the Provincial People's Committee and relevant units have held emergency meetings to discuss response solutions; conducted on-site inspections in vulnerable areas to provide timely guidance. Simultaneously, they have directed relevant agencies and units to closely monitor the developments of natural disasters, provide accurate forecasts and warnings; strengthen communication and urge people to evacuate to safe areas; and implement various solutions to proactively respond to natural disasters…

With the close guidance and attention of the provincial leadership, departments, and forces quickly mobilized personnel and equipment to serve the response efforts. In 2025 alone, the police and military forces mobilized over 26,000 officers and soldiers; and over 1,400 vehicles and machinery to serve rescue and relief work, assist in moving people and property to safe areas, and mitigate damage after rain and floods. At the same time, communes proactively mobilized local forces to carry out response work.
Mr. Chu Tuan Doanh, Chairman of the People's Committee of That Khe commune, said: In 2025, That Khe commune was directly affected by typhoons No. 10 and 11. Given the complex developments of the storms, the People's Committee of the commune coordinated with relevant units to mobilize nearly 2,300 officials, soldiers, and socio-political organizations to jointly respond to and mitigate the consequences of the storms. With the spirit of solidarity and joint efforts of the units and forces, a significant contribution was made to helping That Khe commune respond promptly to the storms, thereby minimizing damage to the people.
Not only were they united in responding to natural disasters, but immediately after the floods subsided, the entire political system and the people joined forces to overcome the consequences. Mr. Luong Van Binh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Yen Binh commune, one of the areas most severely affected by the 2025 storms, said: In 2025, the storms caused damage exceeding 500 billion VND in the commune. Immediately after the storms occurred, the forces and people joined hands to clean up houses and sanitize the environment. At the same time, the commune received and provided people with 550 tons of rice, over 150 tons of essential goods and drinking water; and provided financial support to people affected in agricultural and forestry production totaling over 17.5 billion VND…

Various levels of government, organizations, and individuals have united and contributed to supporting the recovery efforts following natural disasters. Specifically, in 2024 and 2025, the State budget provided over 320 billion VND; organizations and individuals donated over 300 billion VND, along with numerous pieces of equipment, machinery, supplies, and essential goods to support flood-affected communities. This has provided communes with additional resources to reinforce and repair infrastructure; given people better conditions to rebuild and repair their homes; and restored production, gradually "reviving" life in areas once submerged by floodwaters.
With the close attention of all levels and sectors, and the collective efforts and solidarity of the people, disaster response and recovery efforts in the province have achieved many positive results. This has minimized losses of life and property, and helped people in disaster-affected areas quickly overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives.
The 2026 rainy and stormy season is approaching. The natural disaster situation is predicted to continue to be complex and unpredictable. We are confident that with the close attention and guidance of all levels and sectors, and the unity and cooperation of the people, disaster prevention and control efforts in the province will continue to achieve positive results. This will contribute to minimizing damage caused by natural disasters and create important momentum for the province to successfully achieve its socio-economic development goals in 2026 and subsequent years.
