Follow the river back to the village.
Opposite the row of heritage sandalwood trees – which the locals call the rosewood trees (Huong Tra village, Tam Ky city) – lies a tranquil stretch of river. This section of the Tam Ky River appears greener and deeper. A few boats rest on the grassy bank. The mist from the waves is hazy. The scene is like a painting, reminiscent of the idyllic harbors of one's homeland.
Going back in time, we remember the bustling days of the crape myrtle flower festival in Tam Ky. The riverbank near Huong Tra village was then ablaze with colorful ao dai (traditional Vietnamese dresses). Summer was also when the river was at its most beautiful. This feeling is certainly not unique to me, a native of the upstream region. Sunlight shimmered on the water's surface. Boats cut through the waves, carrying people upstream from the city to visit a rural village.
The Tam Ky river, named Linh Giang, possesses a special allure, especially alongside the experiences of the golden crape myrtle festival. A river tour starting from Huong Tra village - Go wharf - Ca Ban village, visiting the orchards and fruit trees of Tho Tan hamlet - Ho Voi wharf (Dong Phu hamlet, Tam Ngoc commune) - visiting Phu Ninh Lake Eco-tourism Area and returning, is enough to draw travel enthusiasts to the city of three rivers.
After about 30 minutes, the Dong Phu boat dock (Tam Ngoc commune) gradually came into view. Summer flower fields were just beginning to bloom. This was also the first "check-in" point to begin exploring Ca Ban village. "Ca Ban - a green rendezvous, a refreshing experience" is the wish of the locals to leave in the hearts of visitors. Situated along the Tam Ky river, the village's space is just green enough with orchards and the genuine smiles of the residents of this land that has existed for hundreds of years.
The story of the people at the riverbank.
While the gentle waves on the Tam Ky River offer a sense of tranquility, with gardens, houses, and shady bamboo groves lining both sides, the experience on the Dam River is different. It's a journey through the vast expanse of water, with the rustling of the wind and the faint sounds of migratory birds.
The feeling of sailing on the Dam River evokes thoughts of a journey back in time. The wildness of the reeds and rushes amidst the river stirs the heart, making one feel as if they are touching a "living museum" of natural life.
The river's mystique isn't solely due to its flow harboring mysteries. Sometimes, the stories of those living by the riverbank, with their strange memories, imbue the river with legend. In Song Dam, the river's story is evoked by witnesses who were once intimately connected to it, amidst reeds and bushes, amidst bombs and bullets, to preserve the precious Bai Say - Song Dam for the future.
The experience of being on the river is only truly enjoyable when the sun is shining brightly on the water's surface. At this time, travelers can feel the profound tranquility within their souls, uplifted by the boat as it glides along the current.
The Tam Thanh coastal area is increasingly vibrant with development projects, particularly focusing on river tourism. Mr. Nguyen Minh Nam, Vice Chairman of the Tam Ky City People's Committee, stated that, in the field of tourism, the Tam Thanh coastal strip, rivers, and lagoons are important natural landscapes with significant meaning for Tam Ky tourism.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Nam stated that although Tam Ky has made efforts to develop riverside tourism, the investment costs for river tourism infrastructure are quite high, resulting in most wharves and docks not being adequately developed. Furthermore, the lack of community capacity and unclear legal mechanisms to attract investors are obstacles to fully exploiting Tam Ky's river tourism potential.
“Over the past period, Tam Ky has focused on developing tourist destinations such as: Ky Anh Tunnel, Song Dam Lake, Huong Tra Village, Tam Thanh Mural Village, Tam Ngoc Ca Ban Village… In particular, the focus has been on developing riverside tourist routes to connect these destinations, while creating new products, especially experiential activities on rivers, seas, and lakes.”
"We have established boat groups to serve tourism in the Dam River, Truong Giang River, and piloted the Huong Tra - Ca Ban route. In the future, Tam Ky will plan and develop specific plans linked to resources and the community to implement, aiming to gradually form a chain of tourist destinations along the Tam Ky river," said Mr. Nguyen Minh Nam.
The development of river tourism means that natural landscapes and living environments are being protected. Because these rivers carry the stories of the land...
