As of now, more than 100 households in Ben Trieu, Binh Luc Thuong, Dong Tan and La Duong areas have been flooded. Many riverside fields, especially the areas outside the dike of La Duong beach, Ngoi Dau beach and Chon Rua beach, are deeply submerged in floodwaters.
The family of Ms. Bui Thi Ha, living outside the Hong Phong dike, was one of the households that suffered heavy losses. All three aquaculture ponds were deeply flooded, almost completely lost. More than 8,000 chickens had to be urgently moved to the top of the dike to avoid flooding. "Today the water rose much faster than yesterday, by 2 p.m. the entire yard and garden were flooded, the barns were about 1 meter deep," Ms. Ha said.
According to data at Ben Trieu Station, Kinh Thay River, at 3:00 p.m. on October 2, the water level reached 2.95 m, about 0.35 m higher than alert level 3. The rapid rise in water levels directly affects aquaculture, agricultural production and the lives of people living along the river.
Faced with the emergency, the military force, the Economic - Infrastructure and Urban Department of the ward coordinated with residential areas to support the relocation of assets of 12 households, fill ditches, fill sewers and reinforce key positions on the Hong Phong dike to prevent water from overflowing.
Mr. Nguyen Trung Dung, Head of the Economic - Infrastructure and Urban Department of Dong Trieu Ward, said: "We have mobilized all forces to urgently reinforce the dike, and at the same time move people and property of households to a safe place. Previously, the Ward also proposed 6 key dike points to be included in the project to improve the safety of the dike system in the period of 2025-2030, with a vision to 2050, to receive the province's attention and investment in upgrading."
With the forecast that the water level may rise rapidly, the risk of dike overflow and landslides in riverside areas is still very high, Dong Trieu ward continues to maintain a 24-hour on-duty force, ready to handle any arising incidents to protect the safety of people's lives and property.
