The allure of the "Northernmost Heart"
Dong Van is a core commune within the UNESCO Global Geopark Dong Van Karst Plateau. Besides its majestic, pristine, and unique natural landscapes and fresh, cool climate, it also holds many traditional cultural values of ethnic minority communities such as the Mong, Dao, Tay, Co Lao, Lo Lo, and Pu Peo. These ethnic groups live in harmony and unity, creating distinct cultural identities characteristic of the karst plateau region. All these nuances blend into a common cultural flow, creating an attractive and captivating destination in the far north.
Having identified the commune as a key tourist destination of the province, the commune has focused on renovating key tourist attractions such as: the product display house, the Old Town entrance gate, the pedestrian street, the sacred well, Tu San Gorge - Nho Que River, the photo-worthy rock formation, the Youth Volunteer Monument, and the ceramic relief painting… To secure investment resources, the commune has called for and attracted investment and implemented several projects through social mobilization. The commune has fostered consensus among the people and businesses to work together with the local Party committee and government to develop key tourist attractions. The construction of these attractions not only brings economic value to the people but also cultural value, contributing to the preservation and promotion of the unique and traditional cultural values of the ethnic groups in the rocky plateau region.
In addition, implementing the Resolution on Agricultural Development in conjunction with Tourism Development, the commune organized a fruit tree planting campaign, planting 100 custard apple trees, 100 plum trees, and 200 pear trees this year. Furthermore, many local products were launched and introduced, such as ginger tea, ginger jam, black chicken models, and black pigs…
During the year, the commune also successfully organized many festivals in Dong Van, such as: the Mong Flute Festival - Street Parade; coordinating with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to organize the Buckwheat Flower Festival... Following the success of these festivals, the number of visitors to Dong Van has increased, with the commune expected to attract over 320,000 visitors in 2025, an increase of 51,580 visitors compared to 2024.

Taking Dong Van tourism to new heights.
Not content with its current successes, the government and people of Dong Van commune are focusing their efforts on longer-term strategies to elevate its position on the tourism map. In the coming time, Dong Van will continue to promote experiential tourism at tourist destinations such as: homestays in the area, building more community-based cultural tourism villages in Ta Lang and Giang Sy Tung hamlets; developing tourist highlights such as May Cave, Mac Da Cave, and Don Cao. Along with that, it will launch several new tourism products in experiential tourism, ecotourism, relaxation, traditional medicine, and health care... Visitors to Dong Van will be able to experience the largest performing arts center in the Dong Van karst plateau, and enjoy horseback riding and carriage rides to tourist destinations and villages. Dong Van commune aims to attract 950,000 visitors by 2026, with revenue from accommodation and food services exceeding 800 billion VND.
Discussing the future development direction of tourism in the commune, Mr. Pham Duc Nam, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Van commune, affirmed: "To develop sustainable tourism, the commune focuses on diversifying eco-tourism and experiential tourism types associated with environmental protection. Alongside preserving distinctive cultural features through festivals, the commune pays special attention to improving the quality of human resources, prioritizing the training of local people – 'ambassadors' with a deep understanding of local customs. This is the core foundation for making Dong Van a friendly and attractive destination on the tourism map both domestically and internationally."
