Component 4 project must keep up with the overall progress of Long Thanh airport

On the afternoon of December 2, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha chaired a meeting of the Working Group of the Long Thanh International Airport Construction Investment Project Phase 1 on the implementation of component project 4 (ground service works) and traffic connection to Long Thanh airport.

Deputy Minister of Transport Le Anh Tuan said that the Ministry has directed the Civil Aviation Authority to conduct bidding and evaluate bids for urgent projects that need to be implemented immediately to ensure service when Long Thanh International Airport is put into operation in phase 1: Aircraft cleaning and maintenance area, ground service vehicle maintenance area; aviation catering area; aircraft maintenance and repair area, etc.

Delegates analyzed the difficulties and obstacles and said that the Ministry of Transport needs to make more efforts and determination to be able to implement component project 4 to keep up with the progress of other component projects of Long Thanh International Airport.

General Director of Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) Vu The Phiet said that in order to put Long Thanh International Airport into operation, the items and works in the airport (component projects) must be completed at the same time as the construction of standard operating procedure documents and the synchronization of connecting traffic routes.

Mr. Vu The Phiet proposed that the Ministry of Transport urgently complete the necessary procedures to assign enterprises, including ACV, to invest and immediately implement projects and works that the Ministry of Transport determined could not be implemented in time, such as cargo terminals, express cargo terminals, cargo warehouses, etc. and the remaining projects and works.

Concluding the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha said that the delay in implementing component project 4, while other component projects are achieving and exceeding progress, will greatly affect the exploitation plan of Long Thanh airport, and risk causing great waste. The Ministry of Transport is responsible for the progress of component project 4, and must make efforts and resolutely implement all solutions to complete the works and items of component project 4 in sync with other component projects to put Long Thanh International Airport into operation on schedule.

The Ministry of Transport must review all bidding documents for works and items in component project 4; clearly identify the items that the Ministry will implement and the projects assigned to enterprises with sufficient capacity and resources to implement, along with a specific progress commitment, and submit to the Prime Minister for adjustment of Decision No. 1777/QD-TTg on approving the Long Thanh International Airport Construction Investment Project, Phase 1.

Also at the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister listened to the report and gave his opinion on removing difficulties and obstacles in implementing expressways connecting to Long Thanh International Airport such as expanding the Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh section of the Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway Project, Ben Luc-Long Thanh Expressway, and Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3.
