According to information from the Department of Water Resources Management and Construction under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment , in May, rainfall in the Northern region, including Hanoi, was generally higher than the multi-year average.
In the Northern Midlands and Delta region, total rainfall measured ranged from 150 mm to 250 mm, 20% to 30% higher than the multi-year average, with the delta area experiencing 15% to 25% higher rainfall. Some stations recorded exceptionally high rainfall amounts, such as Dam Ha in Quang Ninh with 750 mm, Mong Cai with 493 mm, Tam Dao with 425 mm, and Ha Nam with 344 mm.
Thanks to abundant rainfall, there was no drought or water shortage for agricultural production in the Northern region during May.
Authorities predict that the period from June to August 2026 will be the peak of the rainy season nationwide, with moderate to heavy rainfall concentrated mainly in the Northern, Central Highlands, and Southern regions.
Specifically in June 2026, the Northern region is forecast to experience higher rainfall, with total rainfall reaching 150 mm to 300 mm, approximately 5% to 10% higher than the multi-year average. Due to the peak of the rainy season, water resources in June are expected to continue to be adequately supplied for agricultural production activities.
Forecasts indicate that by the end of June 2026, the storage capacity of irrigation reservoirs in the Northern region will average between 58% and 84% of their designed capacity, with Hanoi's reservoirs potentially reaching around 75%, a 17% increase compared to May.
