Hoè Nhai General Hospital ( Hanoi ) recently received and successfully treated a 26-year-old German female tourist who suffered an anaphylactic reaction after eating.
According to information from the hospital, the patient was traveling in Hanoi and was trying an unfamiliar fruit for the first time. Shortly afterward, the patient experienced a burning sensation in the throat, swelling of the throat, a generalized rash, and intense itching.
Noticing the unusual condition, the family quickly took the patient to Hoè Nhai General Hospital for emergency treatment.
Immediately upon admission, the on-call team promptly assessed the clinical condition, monitored vital signs, and treated the patient according to the Ministry of Health 's anaphylaxis protocol. Thanks to timely emergency care, the patient's condition quickly improved. Currently, the patient's throat swelling has decreased, skin redness has subsided, itching has decreased, respiration is stable, and the patient continues to be monitored in the ward.
Doctors say that anaphylaxis doesn't only occur due to medication but can also appear after exposure to many other allergens such as seafood, nuts, fruits, insect bites, cosmetics, or food. For tourists or those who frequently try new foods, the risk of allergies may increase because the body has never been exposed to these agents before.
People should be vigilant for signs such as generalized hives, swelling of the lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, vomiting, dizziness, and low blood pressure. If suspected symptoms of anaphylaxis appear, immediately stop contact with the allergen and seek prompt medical attention at the nearest healthcare facility. Early detection and timely emergency treatment are crucial in preventing dangerous complications and protecting the patient's life.
