On the afternoon of April 3, Mr. Nguyen Van Son, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoi An City, said that the city has just issued a plan to strengthen the management of tour guide activities in Hoi An Ancient Town (Hoi An City). In particular, there will be a separate path for locals when entering Hoi An Ancient Town.
Specifically, from May 15, domestic and international tourists must buy tickets at ticket counters before entering Hoi An ancient town. Tickets will remain at the current price of VND120,000/ticket for international visitors and VND80,000/ticket for domestic visitors.

In addition, there will be two separate entrances on the main roads into the old quarter, one for locals and one for tourists.
Hoi An will also expand the space of the "Street for pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles" project for Phan Chu Trinh Street. In addition, the pedestrian and non-motorized vehicle street will be implemented continuously from 9 am to 9:30 pm every day in the summer and until 9 pm in the winter instead of temporarily stopping from 11 am to 3 pm as at present.
Tourism expert: 'Selling tickets to visit Hoi An is absurd and abnormal!'
The issuance of this plan aims to strengthen the management of revenue from entrance tickets to have more resources for the preservation, restoration and renovation of relics, infrastructure improvement in the old quarter, serving the organization of tourism events, as well as supporting people in the restoration and renovation of houses...
Mr. Nguyen Van Son said that requiring all tourists to buy tickets when visiting Hoi An ancient town is to ensure fairness for both the locality and tourists.

According to Mr. Son, Hoi An ancient town is a World Cultural Heritage, the entire landscape of the ancient town is a heritage, not just a single relic. All funding for the implementation is taken from the entrance fee. Therefore, all visitors to Hoi An ancient town must be responsible for buying tickets.
For those entering Hoi An ancient town for the purpose of working at businesses and restaurants, there will be no fee, but that unit must ensure that its customers enter the ancient town for the right purpose; if inspection discovers sightseeing, the restaurant or business unit will be fined.
