In response to the proposal of Lam Dong province, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) agreed to seek solutions to continue maintaining the operation of Lien Khuong airport; it is expected to close for repair and upgrade in March 2026 and be completed before the rainy season.
On the afternoon of July 16, leaders of Lam Dong province and ACV had a working session to discuss the plan to upgrade and repair Lien Khuong International Airport .
One of the important issues discussed was the closure time of Lien Khuong airport for upgrading and repair work.
ACV Chairman Vu The Phiet informed that Lien Khuong airport is currently showing signs of deterioration and is in dire need of renovation and upgrading. ACV has also prepared and plans to close this airport for repairs and upgrading in the dry season of 2025 - around November 2025 and will try to shorten the closure period.
However, closing the airport for repairs and upgrades poses many challenges. At the meeting, Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Muoi expressed concern about the negative impact on the province's socio -economic development if Lien Khuong airport closes at the scheduled time in November 2025. He said that the interruption of the airport's operations will cause great difficulties, especially when a number of key national highways in the province are being repaired and upgraded, which will affect traffic and economic growth as planned by the province.

Speaking at the meeting, comrade Y Thanh Ha Nie Kdam, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Lam Dong province, requested ACV to work with the Provincial People's Committee to seek consensus on the time to close Lien Khuong airport to ensure the smooth upgrading process and minimize negative impacts on the province's economic activities. The Secretary of the Lam Dong Provincial Party Committee emphasized that the terrain of Lam Dong and Da Lat is very different from that of the coastal plain provinces, and traffic connections are very difficult, so he requested ACV to pay attention to this issue.
In response to Lam Dong province’s proposal to postpone the closure of Lien Khuong airport until 2026, when key transport projects connecting Lam Dong province are basically completed, ACV Chairman Vu The Phiet pledged to seek solutions to continue maintaining the airport’s operations until the end of 2025; it is expected to begin closing for repairs and upgrades in March 2026 and be completed before the rainy season.
Lien Khuong International Airport, an important transport infrastructure connecting Lam Dong with other provinces in the country and internationally, is showing signs of overload. In the first 6 months of 2025, this airport served more than 989 thousand passengers. It is expected that by 2030, it will exceed 3.5 million passengers per year, with an average growth rate of 10%. Upgrading and expanding are conditions to meet this increasing demand, especially when the airport aims to ensure the standards of an international airport.
ACV leaders said that upgrading Lien Khuong International Airport not only solves immediate problems, but is also an investment for the future. ACV plans to invest 3.7 trillion VND to build a new passenger terminal and other synchronous items, increasing the service capacity to more than 5 million passengers per year, after 2030.
