According to statistics from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, from April 29 to 8:00 a.m. on May 3, the total number of visitors to Ca Mau for tourism and entertainment activities reached over 222,700, an increase of over 267% over the same period in 2022.
The reason why in 2023, the number of tourists coming to Ca Mau is higher and using services through tours is increasing because the flight route connecting Ca Mau - Hanoi and vice versa was opened before the holiday (the first flight was on April 29), creating favorable conditions for tourists from the North to the land at the end of the country and travel companies are also more convenient when arranging sightseeing and resting schedules for their customers.
In addition, this year's holiday is long (up to 5 days), so visitors from far away stay and use resort tourism services more than every year. They want to visit and explore the "Ca Mau - Destination 2023" event series to learn more about the landscape, culture, specialties... of the southernmost locality of the Fatherland. Many factors combined at the right time have created a breakthrough as well as a big echo for Ca Mau tourism.

However, the problem that Ca Mau tourism industry has to face is how to make customers come back again. In addition to new customers, retaining loyal customers is still an urgent problem. This problem lies in many factors drawn from the experience of both advantages and disadvantages during the past festival season.
Mr. Le Hong Lam, a tourist from Hanoi, said: “After days of sightseeing in Ca Mau, my family and I quite like the tour through the forest with wild scenery and nature that still retains its own beauty that the industrialization process has not yet “touched”. However, all of them only stop at scenes such as the National Landmark, the Ca Mau Cape Symbol..., that is, only in terms of sightseeing. Personally, I want to learn more. For example, if there is a tour that shows how to process products and can buy them as gifts, it will be more attractive. I know that in Ca Mau there is a profession of hanging beehives and I want to see it with my own eyes, but there is no such tour yet. If we talk about returning to Ca Mau, which is too far from Hanoi, we will consider it when there are new and more interesting tours for the family”.
Not only tourists but also tourism professionals clearly see the points that need to be overcome in the province's tourism if they want to solve the problem of retaining visitors. Mr. Tran Van Thao, Director of Vietravel Tourism Company, Ca Mau branch, said: "Through festivals, we should promote what we have achieved and overcome the limitations. We should promote local specialties. The proof is through the Ca Mau Crab Festival, tourists all over the country know about it and all affirm that when coming to Ca Mau, we must eat Ca Mau crab."

According to Mr. Thao, Ca Mau's tourism products are still not attractive enough for tourists. We have only exploited a small part of our potential through images, models... To attract more visitors, we need more diverse and rich tourism products. Especially, we must develop our own economy. Visitors coming here, in addition to visiting and experiencing Ca Mau Cape, when returning to the city, must have interesting things such as shopping, entertainment... It is easy to say, but to do this is not simple. We must attract strong enough investment groups to have breakthrough projects that only Ca Mau has. Transportation must be upgraded, from aviation to waterways and roads.
"We still don't have anything special about Ca Mau to attract visitors from everywhere, and they can recognize Ca Mau at a glance (like Ben Tre's coconut candy, or Soc Trang's pia cake...). Products like crab, dried shrimp... are very valuable, but we don't have any images to give to visitors so they can remember them, or bring them home to display. Finally, there is the human resource to serve tourism, especially those with high foreign language skills," Mr. Thao shared.
Mr. Tran Hieu Hung, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said: “The recent holiday season, combined with the series of events "Ca Mau - Destination 2023", we need to learn from experience to forecast the situation of overload, lack of attentive service... Tourism service businesses also need to be more proactive in stimulus policies such as: building connection plans, exploiting tours based on local cultural specialties... creating more excitement and attraction for tourists. With better tourism exploitation capabilities, travel agencies will create more tours for tourists. Investors in resorts, restaurants, hotels... will also come when the number of visitors increases. In the new year, there will be 2-3 new festivals to promote tourism development in the province”./.
