Short-day tours are becoming increasingly popular.

This year, workers in Vietnam will have only one day off for New Year's Day. Due to the limited number of days off, people are trending towards booking short trips (1 to 3 days).

According to projections, during the 2026 New Year holiday (December 22, 2025 - January 4, 2026), there will be 3,600 flights taking off and landing at Da Nang International Airport, an increase of 14-16 flights compared to normal days, and a 7.6% increase compared to the same period in 2025. The online travel platform Agoda also noted increased interest in both domestic and international travel during the 2026 New Year holiday compared to the previous year. Domestic travel saw even greater interest, increasing by nearly 22% year-on-year. Travel agencies have noted that the modern pace of life with limited time makes short trips a suitable option for many working people. Weekend trips or short holidays are not only easy to arrange and cost-effective, but also allow travelers to rest and recharge.

To meet customer demand, travel companies have offered attractive promotions and short-day experiential tours. Speaking to the media, Mr. Vu Van Binh, Chairman of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Travel Association, said that the promotional programs for the 2026 New Year holiday that travel businesses are focusing on are city tours and service packages including accommodation, meals, experiences, entrance tickets, and transportation. These promotions not only help reduce costs for tourists but also help businesses create higher-quality tours.

According to observations by reporters from the Vietnam Law Newspaper on travel platforms like Booking.com, hotel bookings in destinations such as Sa Pa (Lao Cai), Moc Chau (Son La), Da Lat (Lam Dong), Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa) are experiencing a sharp increase in demand as the New Year approaches. Many accommodations in prime locations with good prices are fully booked. This demonstrates the strong appeal of tourism during this short holiday period.

City tours contribute to tourism growth at the beginning of the year.

In contrast to the long, traditional Lunar New Year holiday, tourists often choose modern, vibrant destinations to celebrate the New Year with family and friends. Especially during short holidays, city tours are particularly popular.

As in 2025, Hanoi alone welcomed 16,000 visitors during the New Year's holiday. Although short-term tourism has some limitations compared to longer holidays, this is a time when tourists flock to major tourist destinations with bustling shopping and entertainment centers.

To meet the demands of tourists, major cities like Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and Hai Phong have been transformed with artistic lighting decorations, Christmas trees, New Year's displays, and vibrant flower-lined streets in the days leading up to the Lunar New Year. Many localities have invested heavily in countdown programs, outdoor concerts, light shows, and artistic fireworks displays, creating highlights that attract tens, even hundreds of thousands of people.

Ho Chi Minh City continues to be one of the localities hosting the most vibrant New Year's celebrations. The city plans to have artistic fireworks displays at multiple locations at midnight, combined with music performances, street art shows, and a large-scale countdown event on Nguyen Hue pedestrian street.

In Da Nang, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang City held a press conference to announce the New Year's Eve Festival 2026, which is expected to become a highlight of the city's year-end tourism.
