The band Artikal Sound System accused Dua Lipa, her label Warner Records, and her co-writers and producers of "listening to and copying Live Your Life before and during the time they wrote Levitating ," according to TMZ .
Judge Sunshine Sykes said the band Artikal Sound System failed to argue that the authors of Levitating copied the group's 2017 song Live Your Life .

Sykes gave Artikal Sound System the opportunity to file another complaint. She also denied the band's request to move the case to New York, to be tried together with another copyright infringement lawsuit involving songwriters Sandy Linzer and L. Russell Brown over alleged similarities between Levitating and their songs: Wiggle and Giggle All Night, Don Diablo .
Artikal Sound System's attorney, Stewart Levy, said on June 6 that the decision was disappointing and that the band was considering its next steps. Dua Lipa's representative did not respond to a request for comment.
The complaint, filed in 2022, said it was "highly unlikely" that Levitating was created independently "given the degree of similarity" between the melodies, harmonies and other elements of the two songs.
On June 5, Judge Sykes agreed with Dua Lipa that Artikal Sound System's complaint failed to demonstrate that the defendants could have heard their song before writing Levitating .

The band Artikal Sound System confirmed they performed Live Your Life at concerts, distributed the song via streaming services, and sold several hundred copies of CDs featuring the song.
Sykes said this was not enough to prove that the song was so widely known that the writers of Levitating could have heard it and copied it.
Levitating has appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in the US for 77 weeks, reaching number 2 in 2021. Levitating is on Dua Lipa's album Future Nostalgia and is one of her hits. This song went viral, once "haunted" TikTok, and was a trend among many young audiences.
