In the villages of Binh Dao commune, popcorn is a favorite snack for children of all ages. Many families still make this snack themselves. However, no one had thought of taking this snack further afield and producing it on a large scale like Ms. Phan Thi Phuc, a native of Binh Dao. Ms. Phuc shared that this is a childhood snack, and even now, the children in her family still love it because of its delicious and appealing taste.

Recognizing the market demand, Ms. Phuc started making more to sell to people near and far in her hometown. Unexpectedly, the consumption increased steadily, prompting her to find ways to import raw materials and invest in equipment to produce more to supply her customers.

She also tried to supply popcorn to distributors, food stores, cafes, and snack shops in and outside Thang Binh district...

Ms. Phuc's Bao Tram buttered popcorn business focuses meticulously on raw materials, pricing, and product quality. Each box of buttered popcorn sells for 8,000 VND to make it accessible to everyone.

From January 2021 to the present, the production and business activities have not only helped Ms. Phuc develop her family's economy but also created additional jobs for 3 workers. The product is also being considered by the People's Committee of Binh Dao commune for development into an OCOP product, alongside other products such as black sesame oil, Huong Lan sticky rice, and De Vuong wine…

According to Ms. Tran Thi Thuong (a member of the Bao Tram buttered corn production facility), the ingredients of Bao Tram buttered corn include corn, butter, sugar, cheese, ginger, etc. The raw materials are carefully selected to ensure safety for consumers' health.

The product is packaged, vacuum-sealed, and placed in kraft paper bags weighing 450 grams per box, with complete product information and place of manufacture clearly labeled.

Bao Tram popcorn comes in many flavors, including the traditional (butter-roasted) flavor, alongside other flavors like cheese, green tea, and chocolate… The traditional flavor is also quite great, with the kernels roasted to a golden color, fragrant aroma, and rich buttery taste…

The peak sales period for this product is usually during the rainy season. During these months, Bao Tram's buttered corn facility imports an average of 4-5 quintals of raw corn per month for production. Production remains stable during the rest of the year to ensure a consistent supply.

The product has captured the market in Quang Nam and Quang Ngai provinces, reaching both the mountainous and lowland regions.

"The Bảo Trân popcorn production idea received a certificate of merit at the 6th 'Creative Startup Ideas' competition in 2024, organized by the Thăng Bình District Women's Union."

"Currently, we are working hard to renovate our production facilities, standardize processes, improve our products, build our brand and labels... in order to bring our products to OCOP standards in the near future," Ms. Thuong shared.
