Promoting seasonal agricultural product exports
The conference on trade promotion with the Vietnamese Trade Office system abroad with the theme "Promoting the export of seasonal agricultural products" had the direct and online participation of Representative of trade offices, Vietnam Trade Promotion Office abroad.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade , promoting the consumption of agricultural products, especially seasonal agricultural products, is always a priority of the Ministry of Industry and Trade . From the beginning of the year, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has coordinated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, localities, and industry associations right from the stage of developing specific plans, implementing trade promotion to boost the consumption of agricultural products many months before the crop season.
The conference was held at a time when many localities across the country were entering the harvest season of fruit products such as longan, lychee, plum in the North; grapes, watermelon, dragon fruit in the South.
In his opening speech, Mr. Vu Ba Phu, Director of the Department of Trade Promotion - Ministry of Industry and Trade, said that from the characteristics of an economy possessing many advantages for agricultural development with the majority of resources participating in agricultural production activities, agricultural products and agricultural products are identified as both an important source of food in the country and the livelihood of the people, and a strategic commodity in the structure of export goods, contributing to improving the trade balance and promoting economic development.

In recent years, along with the process of deep economic integration, the export of Vietnamese agricultural products has been continuously expanded in the direction of diversification, sustainable export, reducing the proportion of unprocessed products, promoting specialized processing and improving the value and quality of products.
More and more goods and products bearing Vietnamese brands or products manufactured by domestic enterprises are present in supermarket chains, international retail, supply and distribution systems in major markets around the world...
Product quality, competitive prices, improved production processes, product diversity and efforts to comply with requirements and regulations on product safety standards are important factors that help Vietnamese agricultural products conquer and gain the trust of consumers in many demanding markets such as Europe, America, Japan and many other countries, making Vietnam an important link in the global agricultural supply and value chain, despite the difficulties that the global economy is facing.
Currently, many important agricultural export products of Vietnam, with high competitiveness, the ability to penetrate export markets that are in season or about to enter season such as lychee, rambutan, longan, durian, avocado... will encounter certain obstacles in the consumption market when entering the massive harvest season.
"Therefore, to support suppliers in developing and exploiting the market for this year's crop as well as building plans for next season's products, the Ministry of Industry and Trade organizes a Trade Promotion Conference with the Overseas Trade Office System in May 2024 with the theme "Promoting seasonal agricultural product exports" to focus on exchanging, updating market information, and making practical recommendations from the needs of promoting the export of seasonal agricultural products of localities and businesses, thereby proposing specific solutions and plans to support market development" - Mr. Vu Ba Phu said.

Export turnover in May reached 32.81 billion USD
Also according to the Director of the Trade Promotion Agency, since the beginning of the year, exports have continued to be a bright spot in the economic picture when maintaining an impressive growth momentum. According to the General Statistics Office, export turnover in May reached 32.81 billion USD, up 15.8% over the same period last year.
Of which, the fruit and vegetable industry is one of the items with impressive export growth compared to last year, with an estimated turnover of 700 million USD in May, up 7.4% over the same period last year. In the first 5 months of 2024, the preliminary trade balance of goods is estimated to have a trade surplus of 8.01 billion USD.
"The export market space is huge for Vietnamese enterprises, however, competition for agricultural products and fruits of the same type among exporting countries is increasingly fierce" - Director of the Trade Promotion Department emphasized.
Accordingly, the Director of the Trade Promotion Department said that in order for Vietnamese branded agricultural products and Vietnamese branded agricultural products to appear widely and affirm their value on the shelves of international distribution systems, exporting enterprises and producers must constantly improve product quality, adapt to regulations on quality standards, quarantine testing requirements, packaging, goods, traceability according to the requirements of importing countries, etc.
The conference aims to help localities, associations, and businesses express their opinions and suggestions to Vietnamese trade agencies abroad on specific market information support and trade promotion solutions to support seasonal agricultural product suppliers in exploiting consumption markets and reducing market difficulties during the harvest season.
At the same time, at the conference, trade agencies will also share updated information on import and export markets, opportunities to promote the consumption of seasonal agricultural products in foreign markets or experiences of countries exporting seasonal agricultural products to the host market, recommendations for localities, associations, and businesses in promoting market development for seasonal agricultural products.
