(CLO) In 2024, Binh Dinh traditional martial arts officially submitted a dossier to UNESCO for inclusion in the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
This is the information given by Mr. Nguyen Tuan Thanh, Vice Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee at the International Conference "Protecting and promoting intangible cultural heritage and traditional martial arts of Binh Dinh", held in Quy Nhon City on January 5.
According to Mr. Nguyen Tuan Thanh, in recent years, Binh Dinh province has issued and implemented the Project to Preserve and Promote Binh Dinh Traditional Martial Arts; provided financial support to maintain, transmit, and develop typical martial arts schools and martial arts clubs.

The Department of Culture and Sports of Binh Dinh province has conducted surveys and collected martial arts exercises, weapons, and portraits of late martial arts masters and outstanding martial arts masters at martial arts schools inside and outside the province; successfully organized 8 International Festivals of Vietnamese Traditional Martial Arts, making an important contribution to the work of preserving, promoting, and introducing traditional martial arts to a wide audience at home and abroad.
Mr. Nguyen Tuan Thanh said that this workshop will be an important basis for Binh Dinh province to complete the scientific dossier of Binh Dinh traditional martial arts to submit to UNESCO for inclusion in the list of representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
According to Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong, the preparation of a dossier to submit to UNESCO for recognition of Binh Dinh traditional martial arts is a national task, not only aimed at protecting heritage for current and future generations, but also an opportunity to introduce the quintessence of Vietnamese culture to the world, affirming the position of Binh Dinh in particular and Vietnam in general on the global cultural heritage map.
This is also a great source of pride, and at the same time places on our shoulders the responsibility of protecting and promoting heritage in a sustainable manner.
Mr. Cuong affirmed that, as a cultural management agency, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will closely coordinate with authorities at all levels, subject communities, and domestic and foreign experts to carry out this important task.
At the workshop, there were more than 50 presentations by experts and researchers on intangible cultural heritage to serve the completion of the dossier on Binh Dinh Traditional Martial Arts submitted to UNESCO for consideration of inclusion in the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The main groups of issues discussed at the workshop include: Traditional martial arts from the perspective of intangible cultural heritage; Protecting and promoting martial arts heritage - lessons from other countries; Binh Dinh traditional martial arts - local identity, transformation and integration; Protecting and promoting intangible cultural heritage in the contemporary context: The case of Binh Dinh traditional martial arts and other heritages.
These are practical contributions, both theoretical and practical, to the orientations for protecting and promoting the values of Binh Dinh traditional martial arts, opening up opportunities for international cooperation, cultural exchange and widely promoting traditional martial arts heritage.
