A VNA correspondent in Tel Aviv quoted Israeli media sources on June 10 reporting that Germany is promoting a plan to purchase Israel's Arrow 3 anti-ballistic missile system (photo) worth 4.3 billion USD.

The German Finance Ministry has sent a request to the Bundestag to approve an advance payment of up to $600 million to secure a deal between Berlin and the Israeli government by the end of 2023. For more than a year, Germany has been trying to buy Israel's Arrow 3 medium-range missile defense system. In April, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his German counterpart Olaf Scholz agreed to conduct intensive negotiations to push the deal through and are waiting for a deposit to sign the official contract.

Arrow 3 is a joint project between the Israeli Defense Ministry 's Missile Defense Agency and the US Missile Defense Agency. The system allows intercepting ballistic missiles outside the Earth's atmosphere or actively intercepting nuclear, biological, chemical, or conventional warheads near their launch sites. In order to be allowed to export to Germany, Israel must seek US approval.

Since last year, Germany has significantly increased its air defense capabilities. According to Berlin officials, Israel's Arrow 3 system is a good solution to help complete the European country's multi-layered air defense system.
