[E-Magazine] Quang Trung Campaign: Swift action for the flood-affected people (Part 3)

In villages devastated by the floods, many families returned to new homes just over a month after the disaster. From being left penniless and homeless, they now have a safe place to live. The support of the Party, the State, and the entire nation has been extended through livelihood assistance, helping people overcome their losses and rebuild their lives after the disaster.

Perhaps for the first and only time in his life, Mr. Tran Van Khanh from Phu Huu village (Hoa Thinh commune) met Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh . The meeting came at a time when his family had just lost everything after the floods, their house, possessions, and even their peace of mind had been swept away by the raging waters.

But from that brief encounter, a miracle began. Just over a month later, on the land that had been barren after the flood, Mr. Khanh's family's new house was built sturdily.

According to Mr. Khanh, the historic flood in November 2025 swept away all of his family's possessions, from their small house and money to their gardens and crops. The only remaining stroke of luck was that his family was rescued and sheltered by neighbors overnight. After the disaster, this farmer's biggest worry was not just losing his home, but not knowing where to start over.

"Therefore, when the new house was completed, for me it wasn't just the joy of having a place to live, but a sense of relief. Having a home, I could finally think about doing business and planning for the future," Mr. Khanh confided.

Not only Mr. Khanh's family, but hundreds of other households in areas affected by natural disasters are also returning to their new homes, in a timely, warm, and comfortable manner to celebrate the Lunar New Year.

At Bai Dieu (Dong Hoa village, Son Hoa commune), which bears the brunt of the floodwaters from the upper reaches of the Ba River, new houses have also sprung up.

In the house, still smelling of fresh paint, Mr. and Mrs. Nguyen Trong Phe were still filled with emotion. The man, over seventy years old, quietly arranged each item, slowly, as if to preserve a sense of peace after long days of anxiety.

“I worked my whole life to build this house, and then the flood took it all away. I thought I'd have to stay with relatives this Tet holiday, but I never expected to be able to move into my new home just before the New Year. What touched me most wasn't just the new house, but the swift and decisive support. As soon as the floodwaters receded, officials came right to my house. The house was built day by day. Even now, standing in this house, I still feel like I'm dreaming,” Mr. Phe shared.

The new houses that sprung up after the floods marked the beginning of the recovery journey for people in the disaster-stricken area. But that's not the end. The next thing they need is a livelihood so they can get back on their feet after the losses.

Along with the urgent rebuilding and repair of houses for the people, Party committees, government agencies, the Fatherland Front, and mass organizations have continued to work alongside and support the people in gradually rebuilding their lives. This support did not stop during the peak days of relief efforts, but extended throughout the "post-flood" period, when the most subtle anxieties began to surface.

In Tinh Son village (Son Hoa commune), Mr. Le Van Nhan is celebrating Tet this year in his new, sturdy house. What gives him the most peace of mind is that his fields and agricultural production are gradually being restored. After the floods, his family received support in the form of plant seeds and guidance on land reclamation, gradually restoring their livelihood connected to the fields that have sustained his family for so many years.

"Having a house but not being able to earn a living is very worrying. Luckily, the government provided additional support in terms of seeds and fertilizers, and officials came down to the area to provide guidance. Now I believe I can rebuild," Mr. Nhan shared.

Sharing that belief, Mr. Vo Trong Dang from Phu Huu village (Hoa Thinh commune) believes that post-flood support is more significant than material assistance. It's the feeling of not being abandoned in times of hardship. When new houses are completed, and people receive attention regarding their livelihoods, they feel they have a support system and can confidently think about the future.

Throughout the days following the floods, livelihood support programs have been implemented synchronously and flexibly, tailored to the conditions of each region. Some areas focus on supporting agricultural production; others facilitate access to preferential loans; and still others connect businesses and social organizations to help people stabilize their lives… This represents a continuous, uninterrupted effort to support people after natural disasters.

Chairman of Son Hoa Commune People's Committee, So Minh Chien, said: "Supporting people after the floods is identified not only as an immediate task, but also as a long-term responsibility. Reconstruction after a natural disaster cannot be done in a way that says 'once the house is built, the job is done,' but requires a persistent and sustained roadmap, placing the people at the center."

On the sprawling rice fields, tender rice seedlings have begun to sprout through the alluvial soil, promising a bountiful and prosperous harvest. On the rooftops, the smoke from the kitchens rises warmly each evening, and smiles are gradually returning to the faces of those who have experienced loss.

After a natural disaster, the most valuable thing is not just the new homes, but the collective effort of the entire political system and the community behind each shelter.
